Hmmmm
Tend to agree with Bill - PC ness is certainly getting out of hand. Racism is out of hand.
Example - Its OK in the States to have 'black colleges' Its OK in England to have Polish shops, Irish bars etc. Would it be OK to have 'white colleges' and 'The English Grocer'? Probably not.

A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.
BB.... I agree with you 100%. The whole thing was blown completely out of proportion. I'm from South Africa and during my ten years in the UK, working offshore in the North Sea, I was always either called Kaffir or to a lesser extent, Jaapie. Was I ever offended by it............No
Maybe I should contact one of those legal companies and claim that was the reason I could no longer continue working there......lol. My best mates would loose their jobs and I'd get a pile of cash from the company...........give me a break because it's pathetic.
We call Scottish people Jocks, we call English people Guffy's, we call Australians Ausies, Newzealanders are Kiwi's, so what the hell are people from Pakistan?
As another poster pointed out, it all depends on the manner in which these things are said.
Another example is the recent advertising on buses in the UK which reads, "there probably is no God"................Now just for one single minute imagine if that advert read.................there is probably no ....................
I rest my case

Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact
When I lived in the middle east, we used to buy those outfits that Pakistani men wear; (baggy pants and long shirt worn on the outside) because they were comfortable to lounge around the house in.
We called them Paki pajamas and it was not intended as a racist remark... they just look like western pajamas and were of Pakistani design!

Shalwar kameez, I think, assuming you're referring to the baggy shirts and trousers in Pakistan.Arcadian wrote:Guffies?

Anyone find these terms offensive ? If so I will publicly apologise on this forum to them .
I must point out that I was surprised that the news agencies and the major internet sites (BBC/Yahoo and others ) refer to Obama as Americas first "black" president rather than "African American " president .
PC went OTT many years ago IMHO

And they've still got it wrong... they should be referring to him as America's first "half white" president!I must point out that I was surprised that the news agencies and the major internet sites (BBC/Yahoo and others ) refer to Obama as Americas first "black" president rather than "African American " president .
