This one surprised me. I thought the Argentines would make quick work of them. Congrats to the Japanese team. Sunwolves and Jaguares now have one win apiece. Pete
"Japan’s Sunwolves earned a historic first ever victory in Super Rugby when they beat the Jaguares 36-28 at Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium, Tokyo.
^ That reminded me of yet another example where NFL American football took it's lead from Rugby. In a lineout someone in the line calls out signals before the ball is thrown (close up camera and mic at a Super Rugby match last weekend), exactly in the same way a quarterback calls signals before the line center snaps the ball to him. Unquestionably the two are related. Pete

And although the speed and distance of a rugby ball being passed is often slower but from shorter distances, reaction time and handling skills play just as big a factor. Thus, more players are now wearing ultra grippy gloves, provided by the likes of rugby specialists Gilbert and Canterbury.
This is news to me. Has anyone seen players wearing these gloves? Would it have to be cleared by the RFU or whoever?

I've certainly seen players wearing gloves of sorts, but it's not too common - I guess more so in the NH.
Interestingly (well, for some ) in the laws of the game, "fingerless gloves" may be worn (Law 4.1 (d)), but "gloves" are banned (Law 4.4 (e))
Sad - a truly great player - one of the hardest (and fair'ish) tacklers I've ever seen.
"Saracens flanker Jacques Burger has confirmed he will retire from rugby following Sunday's Aviva Premiership game against Newcastle at Allianz Park.
Burger, 32, joined Saracens in 2009, while he captained Namibia and played in three successive World Cup campaigns, winning a total of 41 caps.
He established a reputation as one of the toughest tacklers in world rugby, and he was among the Premiership's most consistent performers during his time in England."

Yes, that's really good as I have a habit of starting impossible quizzes! They're the first ever British & Irish Lions touring team , 1888. Interesting story at link, and there's three Welshmen in there. Pete
One thing I've enjoyed about being back in the UK Pete, is the amount of rugby I can watch - both pitchside and on TV!! Unfortunately the time difference isn't so good for "Super Rugby"...
Some cracking European rugby on this weekend - the "Judgement Day" games in Cardiff (Blues v Ospreys, Scarlets v Dragons) and I shall be there along with 65,000 others!! Sale v Gloucester, Northampton v Bath and the list goes on...... The LHG is not going to be happy with me.... ho hum.
