Re: The Digital Surgery

Post by pharvey »

I've had a browse through the thread, but can't find anything on the same subject, so apologies if it's been posted/answered earlier.

Basically I want to password protect a few individual files/folders. As it's not a great deal, I don't particularly want to have to pay for the program/software. However, all the "freebies" I've found are either cloud based or involve compressing files, putting programs on pen-drives etc. etc..... Can anyone recommend an easy way to simply password protect/lock individual files or folders. I'm running on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

Many thanks in advance

I am having problems re Adobe Flashplayer. Keep being told to update it. When updating I'm told to close my browser. Update completes OK. Re-open browser (FF or Opera) and get same result 'you need to update Flashplayer'.

Any ideas?

On win7 using FF and Opera.

Try downloading it manually, closing the browser, then updating it. Sometimes the update doesn't take when done via the browsers plugin/add-on interface.

thanks Buksi

Works OK in Opera so must be a Firefox thing. A good friend of ours had the same problem some weeks ago and the result was a Trojan in FF

Got to get a new laptop soon as this one is literally falling apart now. Question is about this 64-bit carry on, current laptop is 64-bit which I believe has continually given me grief here and there with compatability hassles... like scanner on the HP printer i had never worked with this 64-bit thing.

So should I be looking out for a 32-bit one instead, or would that be a mistake for some reason?

Cheers,

64 bit is the current standard, your CPU will definitely be 64 bit. 32 bit operating systems have limitations such as only being able to see 3.2Gb of memory and 2Tb of storage.

Only very old hardware will have compatibility issues, best to check the manufacturers website first though to make sure they have 64 bit drivers.

Thanks B, it was exactly as you say. I think it was about 18 months ago that I got the 64-Bit one and had a few issues. Obviously things have moved on since!!

Looks like for some reason the page headers aren't being downloaded and processed properly. Have you tried pressing F5 to refresh the page. Also, what happens when you use the search bar in the top right hand corner (tip try searching for something that you've never searched for before, just to try and force a complete refresh to kick in).

Do all the other sites work as expected?

Yep, tried F5, have set language to English in the contents section.
Done a random search in the small search toolbar and it has the same fonts!!!
It is definitely a language/Font problem, but cannot seem to locate where the problem lies in my settings.
All my other websites are fine. It's just google

Ok now sorted, for future reference if anyone needs it:

It is a bug in Firefox 13.01 update
I needed to reset a string of text in about:config and then delete another line of text in my user profile in my Firefox folder.
All a bit deep but if anyone needs help with this issue then PM me. I have it all saved.
Thx Pleng for your help
