Hua Hin Police Traffic Stops
Re: Hua Hin Police Traffic Stops
I'll get me bath.

Not a "bath."
"BAHT" is one of the few words in Thai that actually HAS a universally accepted English spelling.( Check with your bank, Bkk Post, the Nation, magazines, exchange sites. . .international financial papers etc etc. . . .even most mom & pop shops and vendors get it right.)
( Unlike the name of the summer palace of Rama 6 "Mareukathaiawan" which is spelled at least 6 different ways by the people who run the place . . .and a dozen more by outsiders.)
Yes that's B A H T

I might be mistaken but I'm pretty sure you're allowed to ride without helmets in certain US States?
Personally, if a person doesn't want to wear a helmet, then I thinks that's their choice to make. I can't see why it would make any difference to my life if someone chooses to ride without one or not. It might be foolish to do so, but isn't that their business?
Loud exhausts, fine them because it affects others, and if there's a ton of smoke being left behind, just confiscate the damn things.

Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact
Re: Hua Hin Police Traffic Stops
Is that also applicable to parts of Thailand? The reason I ask is that in various parts of the country I've seen road signs indicating that you are entering a helmet zone. The inference being that if you're going in the opposite direction, you must be leaving a helmet zone.Takiap wrote:I might be mistaken but I'm pretty sure you're allowed to ride without helmets in certain US States?

Re: Hua Hin Police Traffic Stops
It's true that in the states each state has it's own law be it 'universal', 'partial' or 'no law'
Universal is the one we know where all riders must have a helmet.
Partial law is strange. It means that you don't need to wear a helmet over a certain age. The age being set by the state.
No law means you will most probably be killed in an accident!!

There are plenty of states where you don't have to wear a helmet.Takiap wrote:I might be mistaken but I'm pretty sure you're allowed to ride without helmets in certain US States?

I agree with you, that it should be up to each individual as long as they are an adult. I would rather see a law that all children must wear a helmet. I hate seeing small kids or babies on bikes.
If you are in a accident with someone on a motorbike with no helmet and that person dies, then I am sure it will make some kind of difference in your life and most likely a few other peoples lives.
Re: Hua Hin Police Traffic Stops
Having spent a lot of time on the road I must say that Hua Hin seems to have more loitering traffic cops and roadblocks than anywhere else in Thailand. Must be a pretty good little earner.

Re: Hua Hin Police Traffic Stops
Can you blame them while idiots continue to blatently flout the law and provide easy pickings? I must have been stopped a dozen times in the last year. As long as you are operating within the law, it's just a smile, and I'm waved on.buksida wrote:Must be a pretty good little earner.
I saw a real idiot a couple of days ago who was determined to break the law. It was raining really hard, and a motorcyclist went by with the almost mandatory 2 kids as pillion. He was riding with one hand on the bike, while the other hand was holding his helmet one inch above head to keep his hair dry

Re: Hua Hin Police Traffic Stops
I went through two check points on Tuesday and that was just between Sports Villa and the Tessabahn. Lots of people were being pulled over including farangs on motorbikes who had helmets - I can't be sure if they were wearing them at the time of stop though.
Re: Hua Hin Police Traffic Stops
They'll ask for license next, then check the tax on the bike is in, then ask if it is your bike, and finally they may say its too loud or the wrong colour.
Meanwhile just a couple of kilometers south, minivans and pickups are doing twice the speed limit, overtaking on the wrong side, and endangering lives.
Only in Hua Hin!!!!!

buksida wrote:Meanwhile just a couple of kilometers south, minivans and pickups are doing twice the speed limit a little guilty sometimes - but I didn't quibble when caught, and paid the penalty immediately, overtaking on the wrong side A serious question - I know there is a correct side to overtake in the UK, but I honestly thought it was overtake on either side here in Thailand. Is there really a wrong side here?, and endangering lives hopefully, not guilty.
