You'll never manage to convince me. :thumb: For me, food should look good, smell good, and taste good. That pie fails on two counts - it looks terrible, and I'm certain the smell wouldn't be too great either.

  To the contrary, I have lived on Thai food ever since I cam here. The number of western meals I've had could be counted on one hand if I excluded the last few months, since I've started making different "Farang" dishes. I do this mostly for the kids, but I end up eating it as well. As I've said, Thai food is great, but it seems to be geared towards adults, or at least kids who are old enough to handle spicy food. I just don't want my kids living on rice, rice soup, rice porridge, eggs, and all things fried.

For example, I watched my MIL taking care of the kids meals yesterday. For breakfast they had some rice soup, complete with plenty of MSG, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and etc. For lunch they had fried glass noodles, and again with all the "healthy" additives. For supper they had rice and a fried egg, and some french fries. If left unchecked, their daily meals would more or less follow this routine. Like I said, it seems many Thais don't know how to get kids to enjoy eating decent helpings of veggies and etc.

Anyway, :offtopic: Food doesn't need to look "great" but it should at least look acceptable, and seeing the heads of dead fish staring at me through the top of a pie just doesn't cut it. :thumb:

BTW, the food in your pics looks great, but those chunks of liver would have to go. :thumb:

I have to agree that that pie thing is possibly the most ghastly dish I have ever laid eyes on.

In regards to the food most Thai's feed their kids you are quite right. If left to their own devices it will be crap for brekkie, lunch and dinner. At my school you will see most the kids sitting with a plate of rice and a fried egg for lunch. Failing that, a plate of rice and some fried sausages. Some kids opt for the noodle soup.

On the other side of the coin you have the resident fat kids (plenty of them) who mostly just eat pizza and chicken burgers for lunch washed down with three ice creams.

So we have both ends of the spectrum; skinny and scrawny and fat and blubbery. Don't seem to have any kids in the middle.

I remember at school having a proper hearty lunch with plenty of veg and a hot dessert. :?

Don't forget GLCQ, fat is rich and beautiful in Thailand. Means Daddy has money. During my time in Isaan I was told Thais who are fat and have long fingernails are rich and their kids will be the same. I even tried to get some family parents to moderate their sons diet but they could only say 'when he fat he become rich and take care of mum and poppa'
