Winkie sorry to read of your bad time at Coco 51. I didn't reply immediatly as i wanted to visit and see if it has gone down hill.
I have eaten ther three times since your visit and all were superb. The service was good and the food outstanding. I should say that my visits are usually late afternoon early evening.
I know Lek the owner and she is trying very hard to make a success of this venture and i think she is succeeding. I can only think maybe they had an of night on the evening of your visit. Hope you try again and have more success.

It seems like this coco place is a bit 'hit n' miss'. After reading all the posts it seems (like so many other restaurants in Thailand), they are good when its not busy but don't know how to cope when things get hectic. I think I'll give it a try - was thinking about 5/6 pm when its not too busy ... or could someone recommend the best time to go?
Also, I assume they replaced the chef who left?

I went at 7:30pm on Sunday, and when I arrived, the place was less than half full. As the evening progressed it did get quite full.
I noticed this time, that the staff were very experienced. The last time I was there, none of the stafff had a clue what they were doing.
They definelty had a chef the night I was there! And certainly he (or she) could cook!

Been to coco 51 3 times recently and last night paid a visit to The Dukes. Based on these visits I would say of the two venues, The Dukes offers the best quality food. Service at both restaurants is not very good. Both pass marks overall, but The Dukes the better of the two. Coco 51 has a better atmosphere, probably because its the busier of the two.

As restaurant food and/or service can vary from time to time, I make no excuse for re-opening this thread in order to present a current experience. I had dinner at Coco51 last night - excellent! There are a lot of people who must think the same as the restaurant was full - I would say 80% Thais.

Went to coco 51 on April 5 with a party of 12 for dinner at 7pm. The place was packed and service was poor. We waited one hour between courses and when the food did come it was cold. This is the second time this has happened to us so needless to say we won't be back.
I understand we all have our own opinion on this restaurant but there is no front of house manager to co-ordinate or complain too ,in other words no one oversees anything.
If you want a better ambiance with seaside setting then the Anantsilla in Takiab is very good..great service and hot food with a price slightly cheaper than 51.
