Help! No AC trains between Bangkok and HH .. Need a taxi!
Help! No AC trains between Bangkok and HH .. Need a taxi!
Hi all,
We are staying in Bangkok until tomorrow, at the Buddy Lodge on Khaosan Rd.
We did plan to get a air conditioned train from Bangkok station directly to Hua Hin - however I went to buy tickets at the station yesterday and was told that there are no air conditioned trains running until the 1st April! (This was buy an official at the official ticket counters).
So now we hope to travel Bangkok -> Hua Hin tomorrow morning, however are not sure the best way of doing so. We are a group of 4, looking to spend 35-40 pounds, or about 2100 - 2400 Baht. What is the best for us? Should we travel back to Bangkok airport in the morning and get a taxi (or so called "Limo") from there?
Can they be obtained from Bangkok Train station?
Or does anyone know a driver in either Hua Hin or Bangkok that would be willing to make the journey tomorrow morning?
Thank you very much for all your help! And hopefully i'll see you soon!
Michael

Michael,
I would suggest asking at your accommodation first, as they are likely to know one that will pick you up near if not at Buddy Lodge. Failing that, Khao San Road used to be full of shops selling tickets to anywhere, by whatever form of transport you desire - off the top of my head there was one called Blue and White which was in an alley with a number of other shops and bars, while there was at least another one almost opposite Gullivers on the road at that end of KSR. Finally you could call one of the taxi firms (get the number off one of the taxi drivers) and arrange something that way - I wouldn't recommend hailing a cab and negotiating with the driver. Otherwise there are a number of threads on this forum relating to taxis - search the word taxi and some of them will have recommendations, including the service that is linked at the bottom of every page of this forum http://www.huahinafterdark.com/hua-hin-taxi.htm

Go to Victory Monument and take a minivan to Hua Hin. You have to cope with 180 thb per person.
Otherwise, a taximeter is around 2600 or 2800 thb, I do not remember exactely but they take only 2-3 persons...
Bearing this in mind, travelling 3rd class train with open windows is not that bad. You can have a look on the countryside and take nice pictures...

Hello all, I must first say how thankful I am to you all for the advice you have given me. I contacted a taxi firm I was recommended by Big Boy and they said I can have a "big taxi" with aircon for 2200 baht. I think this is very reasonable considering i made it clear there were 4 of us with baggage. I also made sure they included tolls in that price.
Big Boy, can I mention the name of the taxi company here?
They seemed very reasonable (after I worked out how to use the phones here!
)
I would also like to buy everyone here a beer,
- where do you guys hang out? I'll be around for a few weeks so if you see 4 pasty looking tourists dancing in the local bars, please come on over - i'm Michael!
All the best, and thanks again.
PS worst case they don't turn up - in which case we'll just use local companies here which want about 3500baht
or maybe a mini van (space and air con permitting!)
Many thanks to you all again!

Michael,
Better not mention them as we were asked to restrict their services to PM last week.
They do however come highly recommended - please let me know how you get on because I'll be using them myself when I arrive in a few weeks.
