The pass that led to Thailand's first goal last night - an equaliser in more ways than one. VAR cocked up big time in the first leg, not noticing the Filipino player was about 7 miles offside. So VAR not noticing the ball being out of play was a virtual equaliser. I've said it before, and I'm sure I'll say it again, VAR is an arse.

At least, I'm blaming VAR. I'm not 100% sure VAR was in use. The problem is, this part of the world is trying to make VAR as seamless as it is in the Premier League, but using Asean referees. In Asean football, a VAR investigation takes 5 to 10 minutes. Split second VAR decisions for an Asean ref are a complete farce.

For anybody that watched it, I'm sure you enjoyed a good game, full of incident.

After the opening goal, which was a complete defensive shambles, Thailand were cruising against a 10 man Vietnamese defense until there was a stupid sending off that cost Thailand the cup.

Rajamangala is a beautiful stadium as well. I thought we were going to be too far from the action, but our view was perfect. The atmosphere throughout was electric.

I support England, so was fairly neutral at this game. Whilst urging Thailand to win, the result was secondary - it was a fantastic experience, and we couldn't have chosen a better game to be there. It cost just 4,600฿ split between 2 of us for the day, which included door to door transport - worth every Baht.

Absolutely loved it. Congratulations Vietnam. A great advert for Thailand football.

Entertaining it was, Asian football is different to the west, especially the 'refereeing'. It seems that the Vietnamese are still not happy despite the win.

I actually thought the ref had a good game for this part of the world.

There was nothing wrong with the goal. After all, it was scored by a Buriram player - say no more!

One sad bit from the match was player of the tournament, Nguyen Xuan Son's demise. Whilst every Thailand supporter was happy to see him leave the game, I don't think anybody would really want to see him leave like this.

I enjoyed the game, and did think 'the not in the spirit of the game', goal, spurred Vietnam on a bit, but Thailand did miss other chances before and after the own goal, so I think the result could be put down to Karma!

I am surprised to see you call the stadium 'beautiful'. I think it's an absolute dump and a disgrace for what is meant to be the National showcase for Thai football. It's like a left over relic from the 80's.

The 'not in the spirit of the game' goal was partially down to the Vietnamese tactics. They came to defend their lead, and must have thought it was their birthday when gifted such an early goal.

Do you think their falling down every 2 minutes to disrupt the flow of football to be 'in the spirit of the game'? It was immediately after one of these sniper in the crowd incidents that the 'not in the spirit of the game' goal happened. I will admit, I could see nothing wrong with the goal. The Vietnamese player laid down to disrupt the game/take a breather (after all, they were under pressure, and still ahead on aggregate). I saw nothing that indicated to me that such an action warranted being given back possession - after all, there was no foul and no accidental collision. It was a deliberate action (cheating) to disrupt the football, and give Vietnam time to re-group. Well done that man - even if he is a Buriram player.

Yes, once Thailand had equalised on aggregate, Vietnam needed a little more to take the trophy, so they had to up their game. Even then, there was no real danger until the stupid foul/sending off incident that cost Thailand the trophy.

The National showcase for Thai football is not world class, but TIT - Thai football is not world class either. It is still better than most other stadiums in Thailand, many of which I refuse to visit because they are terrible (currently 6 in T1 - actually 5, because it would be rude to avoid Prachuap when its on my doorstep, but the view is the worst). It is certainly better than the other National Stadium. Yesterday's attendance was 33% higher than any other ASEAN game, ever. It is one thing building a beautiful stadium, but what is the incentive? There are many facilities in league football that need the investment more that wasting money improving a stadium, which probably ranks in the country's top 3 already.

I watched the game as a neutral, so perhaps viewed it differently to you. My other half thought Thailand were crap and went to bed! But she's a hard taskmaster, you should hear what she say's about Chelsea!

The stadium opened in 1998 and was in my opinion out of date already, but it was designed by Thais, and not experts from elsewhere, as usually used, so that's to be expected. I agree it's impressive when finally inside, but the facilities are non-existant and it's all very basic and primitive. Likewise when built, it was in an area not served by public transport, but it will finally, eventually, be served by one of the new Bkk railway lines, which probably means they won't be able to cope!

England is my team, so although I was with the Thailand fans, sporting a Thailand shirt, I was basically a neutral as well.

I can understand your other half's view - it was a bit like watching England when the other team park the bus. The Vietnam plan was to protect their aggregate lead at all costs. That 2 footed tackle on Jonathan after 5 minutes was a sign of their desperation. So dangerous, it should have been a straight red. Playing against a 10 man defence who are hoping to score on the break always makes you look bad. I think I was kept so interested by the incredible atmosphere.

Did you notice the Thai FA's new head office on yout trip? It's in the main sports complex in the area by the footie stadium and university, I only noticed it as we pass it to get to a nearby Makro we sometimes use in Bkk, becauase it has plenty of parking! I wondered how much they paid for it and when I looked, the funding for it was provided by FIFA!
