KRABI — The “Hua Thong boat” or longtail boat is a vessel built from local wisdom. It’s widely used in the southern seas of Thailand, especially along the Andaman coast, from Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, Ranong, Trang, to Satun provinces.

Locals traditionally use this type of boat for fishing and catching marine life. Nowadays, it has been adapted to serve tourists visiting the Krabi sea, becoming another unique feature of Krabi Province.........

^I once visited Bira in the south of Sulawesi in Indonesia and they had an amazing amount of traditional boat building going on similar to this.
They were building large Pinisi sailing ships up to 20m long on the beach with the minimum of equipment and small teams of a few guys operating out of thatched huts.

Wow, this topic is a bit coincidental for me Mr. Pete.
It was only yesterday I was watching an old 1982 video cassette of a Keith Adam produced tv series featuring these hua tong boats
And then this morning I've tracked down an old hard copy book of Adam's travel series in Thailand which I have ordered.
Complexity is so simply overrated
