They've spent the last 2 weeks making wire 'things' (another of my technical terms ). They've now started putting them on the piles, and putting wooden boxes over some of them. I still don't have a clue what's going on.

Can anybody see what it is yet?

What are you hoping for BB, a pier with an amusement arcade and sticks of rock?
Maybe the boxes are moulds for concrete to make a base for the rest of the structure. I think the suggestion above that it's going to be a display of pictures of Royal history is the most likely outcome.

My prediction has always been a pier that can be utilised for open air shows, etc. However, it does seem to be 2 mirrored piers at the moment.

I still think the museum will be at the opposite end of the lake. A very large construction site there, which would be more akin to hosting a display depicting 70 years of a King's reign.

Maybe the boxes are moulds for concrete, but it just seems strange to place them there now, when they can be blown into the lake by the wind. Yes, the wire things won't go anywhere, but the wooden boxes does look strange, and they are already being moved by the wind.

I've heard this several times now. Another badly thought through project if true. It will be to attract visitors - where will they park? A 6th cafe around the lake when 4 of the others are already very quiet. At the foot of uneven steps, and certainly not wheelchair friendly.

If it's correct, I don't really see it succeeding.

My theory is based on the frequent visits by the army/Tessebahn, and seeing them squeeze onto the pathway for their ceremonies. IMHO a platform with nothing on it would be much more sensible/practical, and is actually needed.

You are certainly true Big Boy and i don't see success there for a café. I just say what some business owners nearby say about this project, informed by city officials

Spot on that man - looking very neat now with the temporary formwork sitting nicely on the rebar cages (wow - me using technical terms ).

My wife had been a little under the weather, so we hadn't been to the lake for 2 days. As soon as we arrived today, it was clear to see the water level had dropped considerably (about 18"). My initial thoughts were the repairs to last year's leak had given way.

When we reached the mystery construction, it became obvious the water had been deliberately released from the lake by opening the sluice gates. The piles that weren't wearing a temporary formwork over a rebar cage (getting good with this technical stuff ) had been decapitated to just above the new water level. The cutting machine is electric, so could have been interesting if they'd attempted it under water

With the lower water level, it became obvious what was happening to the knobby ends of the original piles.

The strange thing is this platform will be several feet below the existing walkway, and will be underwater when the sluice gates are closed again.

Can anybody make sense of it yet?

They are presumably using this as the foundations for whatever the structure above the waterline will be - all will be revealed in the course of time!!
