Well done Hua Hin Tessebahn. They've got a gunge scooper outer at the lake.

This bad boy appeared on the lake today. Looks like some sort of drilling rig to me. The amazing thing to me is how it got there. It would have been a very wide load to get there by road, and if it did arrive by road, it;s quite a lump to lift from the road to the lake.

Not a drilling rig, but a pile driver. They may be going to build a small jetty, or install a new pipeline.

Thank you for the clarification. I don't know if it means anything, but at the North end of the lake, there is a lot of what looks like fishing line tied as what I guess is guides. and sticks placed in the water. I'll try to remember my better camera (still crap) tomorrow to try to photograph the fishing line/sticks. It may mean something to somebody who knows what they are talking about.

I actually remembered my slightly better camera this morning :D

Firstly, the mystery of how such a big barge could arrive in a land locked lake, fed by small streams. It was actually 2 barges connected together, so not hard to move by road.

Next thing I noticed was a stack of posts waiting to be driven into the lake.

The fishing line was very hard to photograph, but I tried.

Bearing in mind the Nereus post, and now looking a bit more closely, my take on what is going to happen here is they are going to build an events platform over the water here, where various events/gatherings will take place e.g. they often block off the main road, and put a music stage across the road for events such as Loy Krathong. I often see tents and chairs at the North end where various religious services take place. If I'm right (and I'm probably a million miles from what is really happening), it sounds like an excellent idea to me.

And the piles start to go in.
Albeit not very far!
Allowing for even shallow water, they do not appear to be very far into the bed of the lake.

Yes, I must say, I thought, assuming they will be chopping the surplus length off, there was going to be an awful lot of wastage. Or can they use the remaining part again? It's not easy to see, but in the last photo, you can see one pillar has already been sliced in half(ish).

It may not have been sliced in half. The usual practice when driving similar piles is to keep hammering until refusal. That is, the ground conditions dictate how far the pile penetrates the sub-surface. The piles can then be cut off as required to the correct length, ensuring that they will not sink any further.

After contracting the plague, I've stayed away from the lake for a couple of weeks. Returned this evening, and the forest of piles is growing.

For unavoidable medical reasons our daily trip around the lake has been curtailed for about a week. We resumed our walk around the lake this evening, and was surprised to see a lot of thin wooden stakes laying alongside the concrete forest. So my theory about them building a platform over the lake seems to be out of the window,

Does anybody have any clue what they might be doing?

Not a clue, but I drove past the concrete pillars last week, and the area where they have been embedded, is much larger than I understood from your photo. But it could be some sort of platform and the wooden posts could be the basis of a temporary structure to support building work.

Still not much action, but another pile of wood was being delivered today. Didn't ask the delivery crew what was happening because I doubt they even knew their name.
