Covid subvariants identified in Thailand
Two mutated forms of Covid-19 variants were found in Thailand in October, including 18 cases of the Alpha Plus subtype and one case of Delta Plus, the Public Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

“The Alpha Plus or E484K could escape immune response and could cause more symptoms,” said Dr Supphakit Siriluck, the Director General of the Medical Science Department. “We have found two cases of the variant at a prison in Chiang Mai and 16 cases in Chanthaburi and Trat.”

If a variant or subtype can escape a body’s immune response, this can make existing vaccines less effective against it.

“Thailand has found 18 Alpha Plus cases and one case of Delta Plus or AY.1. We have not found any AY.4.2 yet, we want to clarify this for the public to understand,” he said.

The Delta Plus or AY.4.2 subtype is under investigation in the United Kingdom, because it has been found to spread faster than the original Delta variant by 10-15 per cent.

Dr Supphakit said the two cases of Alpha Plus in Chiang Mai were found in a prison, and the 16 cases in Chanthaburi and Trat were found at longan fruit processing plants.

Of the 16 cases, 12 were Cambodian and the rest were Thai.

Cambodia to re-open to international travellers
Foreign tourists will soon roam Cambodia's ancient Angkor Wat temples once again, after officials on Tuesday flagged a partial reopening to vaccinated travellers.

The coronavirus pandemic and travel restrictions put the brakes on Cambodia's burgeoning tourism industry -- revenue plummeted to $1 billion last year, down from nearly $5 billion in 2019 when the country attracted 6.6 million visitors.

The Cambodian Tourism Ministry on Tuesday announced a Nov 30 reopening for popular beach spots Sihanoukville and the island of Koh Rong, as well as Dara Sakor -- a Chinese-developed resort zone.

The northern city of Siem Reap -- gateway to the world heritage-listed Angkor Wat complex -- will be added to the kingdom's hotel quarantine-free travel scheme in January.

More than 2 million visitors wandered the archaeological park in 2019, but the world-famous attraction has been mostly deserted since the pandemic took hold.

Foreign travellers will require certificates showing they have been double-vaccinated, health insurance covering treatment for Covid-19, and negative swab tests prior to departure and upon arrival in the country, the tourism ministry said.

Tourists must remain for a minimum of five days at the pilot locations and undergo a further swab test before being allowed to explore other parts of Cambodia.

Talk about misinformation!

First time I've listened to this for a while. Today they produced a list of 17 provinces where the curfew is being lifted from the 31st October. PKK is on the list with a note - Hua Hin and Nonkae only.

WTF. The curfew has already been lifted for the whole of PKK a couple of weeks ago. There is no curfew in PKK currently so how do they report the lifting of such curfews from 31st October.

And we're told that the only valid info is from the CCSA. They contradict themselves all the time. There's no wonder that distrust is rife.
