Of course I'm no medical expert, but let's say for example, i'm shopping in a supermarket with fully sanitised hands but no mask and someone in the store who may well be unaware that they are carrying the virus happens to cough or sneeze in my general vicinity then we have a situation whereby I am potentially vulnerable to airborne infection. Better safe than sorry is my credo right now.

My initial thoughts on that video, especially through the day was masks and social distancing, non-existent.

That was before social distancing was recommended. You'll notice at the end of the vid the school was about to close for 3 weeks. Social distancing when schools were open was not happening. One of the reasons for closing them.

I won't argue, but just point out the video was uploaded yesterday. The video footage was probably captured over several different shoots. I don't remember the exact timeline, but I thought schools closed before bars, and the bars in the video look pretty well closed to me.

Then again, each province seems to have been doing its own variation, so maybe a different timeline over there.

My real point was, 4 weeks ago I wouldn't even have looked for masks or social distancing.

Yes and No. There have been reports that you touch your face even more with a mask. Certainly with the thin masks, the amount of time people spend adjusting the mask, pulling it below the chin to eat or drink, then pulling it back up to your nose etc. If your hands were contaminated, then so is the mask. Those thin masks just serve as one more medium for the virus to 'hitch a lift on'.

I have just received a phone call from my better half who works at The Malls Head Office in Bangkok.

Basically asking me to post on the forum that Bluport are requesting that everyone who goes shopping there, during the current lockdown, should wear a mask.

At the moment, those without masks will be allowed in, but that might change without notice.

Edit - if proper mask not available, a cloth mask can be used instead.

I just got back from my evening stroll with the dogs around the development up here in Thap Tai and I did notice that there was a marked increase in wind speed. Does that mean in theory that any airborne Covid virus would travel further thus increasing the risk of infection even whilst maintaining social distancing?

Maybe the answer is a "no shit Sherlock" response.

I'm no expert but would simply comment that from what I read on here and others.....


It's not airborne in that sense.

It's only airborne for a very short space of time after someone who's infected has coughed or sneezed and until it lands and settles on a surface.

Hence why you should wash hands so much because we then could touch that surface and then touch our mouth nose eyes.

This is also why wearing a mask is thought by many to be' mostly' a waste of time.

I wear one but mostly out of 'respect'

Strange experience tonight in my local 7/11. The young girl who often serves me (she's got to know what I want) asked me how I was.

'I didn't realise you spoke English" I responded. "I thought you were going to ask me why I have no mask."
She replied "Not at all. Don't wear one unless you have to." I said "That's a strange response from a Thai and you're wearing one".
"I have to. It's the rules. I've learned a lot about viruses at university and I know that wearing a mask is nonsense and can even be bad."
"You are the first Thai person I've heard say that."

I actually found it quite refreshing listening to someone who actually has a valid opinion. Quite rare in this country.
