Mc. Doof (what the youth is calling Mc Donalds in Good ol' Germany!) Is finally comming to Hua Hin.
Hmm... I can remmeber some years back Mc Donalds had open a kind of temporary outlet in front of the Hua Hin Grand Hotel for roughly three months just as Burger King opened. This one will be permanent I think. Tthe battle between Burger King and Mc Donalds heats up again, ahhh with a sligh advantage for "The King", it has been there longer!
I had been all over the world and Hua Hin was one of the places where the Yellow double arch WAS nowhere to be seen. I guess it's the tides of times and changes happen as simple as that!!!

Still Love Hua Hin!!!
Your's The understudy!!!
All over the world and Hua Hin is ONE of the places that do NOT have Mac's, come on.

I could sit here for a week and name places that do not have Mac's.

Here's a few, Cha Am, Pranburi, Prachuab Khiri Khan, Phetchaburi, Tha Yang and these are just Local.

Good for Hua Hin, MORE CHOICE.
Sorry BEARHUG I think you misunderstood me there! According to Mr. Burger Hua Hin will have one McD's in the near future. and I did not gave my opinion weather it's good or bad I just say that times are changing weather it's good or bad that would be decided by the Patrons who go and eat there. Choice IS good for farangs and locals allike!!! Thank you for reminding me about that Dankeschoen!!!

Forget the weather, think about the Big Mac Meal that will be delivered within 10 minutes of telephone ordering.
We are honoured and priveleged to have the most popular restaurant in the world within our town.

As G.Tott (the bulging freak) said, we all like the big ones, that why we go to Bangkok on a fortnightly basis.
The Dynasty Grand has nothing on the McDonalds Pavilion in Hua Hin.

I have tried noli desparandum to stay out of this thread because i just fail to understand why the hell anyone would want to come to the country with the finest cousine in the world and then sit down in a sanitized morgue and order a slab of bovinespongeyformencepolopathy betwixt a homogenized chemical laced bap .Gott und himmel i mai khoa jai.
Putting the last brick in turning this lovely THAI place into a euro ghetto god forbid. Not long now until the Thais become 18 stone lumps of blubber in bikinis a 3 year old would fit in waddling around the streets the thought makes me cringe.   :? :? :?

I also wanted to remain out of this thread, as I find it bizarre that so many people have time and inclination to write about such a meaningless topic. However, yours sparks a response within me!

Firstly, McD (whom I seldom frequent, but occassionally do, for various reasons) would not make HH a Euro ghetto, mostly due to their US origin, but I guess you meant Western Ghetto (however, perhaps I'm wrong in this assumption). Assuming I'm correct, I think the Western/Euro ghetto image would have arrived with the first Electricity, or Telephone, or Motorcar or television, or flushing toilet, or simply the large amount of Wetern People living here. Those major arrivals would have prompted a social change, the arrival of one more international fast food outlet in addition to others already present (and the throng of Thai copy fast food outlets) would hardly represent the beginning of social decay.

With regard to the 18 stone lumps, this is due to education and good parenting, nothing to do with McD. Thais are not forced to consume vast amounts of fast food, however they seem to choose to do so, and of their own free will, even though the cost is much higher than eating Thai street food (which certainly is laced with chemicals, so not so healthy either, although I agree not so fattening). I truely wish your assumption WAS correct, as I spend most of my working days close to a Mercedes shop, and therefore naturally would be driving around in a big beautiful new Merc, simply becuase they are available near me, sadly that is not true.

Incidentally McDonalds Thailand Franchise is owned by McThai, which I believe is a totally Thai Company, therefore you should even consider to use the description Thai ghetto, as the product you refer to is owned by Thais, prepared by Thais, sold to and consumed by Thais, using products purchased in Thailand (might be wrong on that bit, maybe some of the ingrediants are imported, but I'm sure a whole bunch of you will correct me.

Now, haiving said all of that, I also prefer not to eat at this establishment, but am happy to have toe option should I feel the need!

Sure to be hearing from you soon

Best regards

Winkie i will accept the western ghetto scenario but i am sure you realize i am only using it in a symbolic way. i have struggled with any western food outlet i just cant see the point because i came here in particular for the food and the people and the way of life even the weather comes well down on my list after the fantastic food
I am lucky however all of mrs sarges family are fantastic cooks and her in particular so i rarely eat anything but thai.
Even her roast stuffed chicken bares no resemblance to the british roast chicken i taught her, the stuffing is nearly totally thai now and the chicken is eaten after the stuffing is finished. The curry i taught her (taught to me by my ghurka soldiers in port stanley) is now better and has more thai influence than ghurka
The 18 stone lumps are supposed to be the educated ones are they not in fact the farangs are the ones who constantly criticise the thai education (something i do not) so i dont see your point
As for electricity motor cars telephones what have they got in common with McD thais did not have electricity cars or telephones so it was an advance for them they are up to their bums in food sellers though i just dont see how McD is and advance i see it as a western detraction
As for chemicals in thai food all i will say is forgive me BS thais dont waste money on chemicals either in production or cooking it is a way way lower percentage than in the western world
Whether it is thai thai thai doesnt make a crap of differrence it will still be the same as any other McD that which is sold
As for an option try making your own now thats an idea aint it

I wont be eating any thats for sure i wont stop my kids but will tell them all i know about it then its up to them Pizza Hut only lasted 3 month in this house thank god

Hope you get your merc ill stick with my m/c i can park it close and not have to walk miles to get from parking place to the shop i want

McD

I have never been in a McD but walking past one and smelling the awful emanations has ensured that I never shall.

As someone mentioned at the beginning of the thread, the outlets are localized. I have had a glimpse of the menu and the specials will be:

Quarter Pound Loin of Cat with all the trimmings and French-Indochinese Fries. (Some sort of bug I think).

McDog Roll. Fillet of dog in a Sesame Bap with Sweet Basil and Honey Mayoanaise. Fries and iced tea upgrade avaoa;bel.

For the meat abstainers, Deepfried Battered Dung Beetles with a spicy dip.

The Triple Decker. Three 2 oz pates of minced pork intestines, minced pork bladder and a pigs liver fillet.

As sargeant says, Thailand has the best cuisine in the world and McD have made a considerable effort to keep up standards.

Hi Sarge

Thanks for the civilised reply.

I'll try to clarify my meanings.

sargeant wrote:Winkie i will accept the western ghetto scenario but i am sure you realize i am only using it in a symbolic way. i have struggled with any western food outlet i just cant see the point because i came here in particular for the food and the people and the way of life even the weather comes well down on my list after the fantastic food

The point is, it was not put there just for you!

The 18 stone lumps are supposed to be the educated ones are they not in fact the farangs are the ones who constantly criticise the thai education (something i do not) so i dont see your point.

Its not a dig at the education system, although that may have something to do with it. No one is forced to eat the stuff. In Europe (and I think US), McD openly porvide dietry info relating to the good and bad contents of their products. This, I think is provided voluntarily, McThai, a Thai company chooses not to provide this information, why? Money (but not western money). finally, and I think you'll agree that the obesity problem that is growing in Thailand is due to the middle classs Thai allowing their children to do absolutely anything (and I mean ANYTHING) they want. To blame this on anything else execpt for poor education, bad parenting and greed is simply a cop out!

As for electricity motor cars telephones what have they got in common with McD thais did not have electricity cars or telephones so it was an advance for them they are up to their bums in food sellers though i just dont see how McD is and advance i see it as a western detraction

They are ALL Western influences/introductions - what they DON'T have in comon is that the ones I mentioned had a huge and positive impact on Thai society, why pick on a miniscule non-event like the arrival of McD (and I repeat, it is THAI)

As for chemicals in thai food all i will say is forgive me BS thais dont waste money on chemicals either in production or cooking it is a way way lower percentage than in the western world

MSG - Monosodium Glutomate (pongchalook) is the prime ingredient in ALL Thai cooking (including at home). It is used to excess, its not good for you, its use is restricted around the world, here its use is out of control. Why? It makes cheap, poor quality ingredients taste good.

Thai Street food, but its nature is prepared and eaten by the 'street' together with all the chemicals that spill out of the back of the cars and motorcycles, this certainly lands on your food.

Look at a Thai Jar or Can or Packet of something next time you are in a supermarket. Notice tha the percentages of the ingrediants add upto about 75%. Why do you think that is? do you think is becuase they keep the very best ingrediaents secret?

Whether it is thai thai thai doesnt make a crap of differrence it will still be the same as any other McD that which is sold
As for an option try making your own now thats an idea aint it

Yep, agreed

I wont be eating any thats for sure i wont stop my kids but will tell them all i know about it then its up to them Pizza Hut only lasted 3 month in this house thank god

I DO stop my kids from eating it, when possible, I also think that there are far better things to eact. Occassionally I have to give in, and some times I enjoy it myself (not McD, but BK)

Hope you get your merc ill stick with my m/c i can park it close and not have to walk miles to get from parking place to the shop i want

If ever I get it, I'll also not have to walk miles, as Ill have the driver drop me by the door!!! Until then........

So Sarge, I hope that I've clarified my point.

Now that I've cleared that up, I have to confess to being guilty of spending so much time on such a mundane subject as McD.

Ah, well.....................

MSG is quite harmless for most people.
Glutamate is a normal body constituent and is present in many foods,
A small prcentage of people exhibit the "Chop Suey Syndrome" which though not dangerous is best avoided.

Firstly the reply was related to the statement by Sarge that there were little or no chemicals in Thai Street food, nothing was mentioned about 'harmful' in Sarge's post.

However, since I made brief mention to MSG being not good for you, below is list (not conclusive) of the problems and reactions associated with MSG intake:-

Anxiety attacks, Asthma-like symptoms, ADD, Bloating, Burning sensations, Carpel tunnel syndrome, Chest pains, Depression, Diarrhea, Disorientation and confusion, Dizziness, Drowsiness, Fatigue, Flushing, Gastric distress, Headaches & Migraines, Hyperactivity in children, Infertility and other endocrine problems, Insomnia, Irregular or rapid heart beat, Joint pain, Mood swings, Mouth lesions, Nausea and vomiting, Numbness such as finger tips, Seizures, Shortness of breath, Simple skin rash, Slurred speech, Stomach aches, Tremors, Vomiting, and Weakness, learning difficulties in the young, digestive problems, behavioural problems, etc.........

Like I said, its not good for you.
