Before throwing away the old remote, make sure it is really broken. Put in a fresh set of batteries, then point it at your phone camera. If it still functioning, you should be able to see the infrared led on the remote flashing.

Done that before posting. Even tried to bend the contacts. Dead as stone.
Isn't there a thread going back a year or more saying you have a weekly market down there which has tables of used remote controls available for purchase? I guess it's a gamble, but worth looking if that market still exists. Pete
