Re: Caption Competition

Post by Big Boy »

Guys, I am seriously thinking this weekly competition has run it's course. We've had 6 good years, and thank you to all who have made it fun.

I will let it run until 6 Jan 17 to see if there's any improvement, but if entries stay at the same levels, I really don't see any point in continuing.

Christmas/New Year Arrangements - It is silly season in the Civil Service, so I have stood the UK judging panel down until 13 Jan 17. I need to rely on guest judges until then, so the following periods need to be fulfilled:

- week ending 16 Dec 16 - pharvey
- week ending 23 Dec 16 - lindosfan1
- week ending 30 Dec 16 - prcscct
- week ending 6 Jan 17 - pharvey
- week ending 13 Jan 17 - Judging Panel

Can guest judges please advise as soon as possible if the extra duties are not achievable?

If we continue beyond 6 Jan 17 will depend on activity up to and including 6 Jan 17.

Thank you to our guest judge, prcscct, for judging this week's competition. Unfortunately another very poor response. I have decided to let the competition run until the new year (traditionally the forum's busiest time), but if things don't improve, I see little point in continuing. Admin takes a similar amount of time each week regardless of number of entries. It really isn't worth the effort for just 6 captions. This week's top 5:

5th Pharvey with "Three wise men? ....... Not so much!"

4th Pharvey with "Oh the bankers really do work hard for their customers!!"

3rd Kendo with "Student labour supporters have just learnt Jeremy Corbyn won the leadership challenge."

2nd Vital Spark with "These new office chairs are brilliant. You just pull the lever at the side and you can tilt it right........."

1st place goes to Pharvey with "The race for the coffee machine was getting nasty......"

Thank you very much to all who participated. Better luck next time to those who didn't win.

Pharvey you now have until 23:59 on 11 Dec 16 to post the next entry. Competition results will be announced on 16 Dec 16.

Next week's guest judge will be pharvey, so you are barred from 'valid' captions for the next 7 days.

Darn sad to see the Caption competition coming to an End, I just found this site
today. Sad to be getting old and grey and forgetful.

Well, it looks as though pharvey's white charger has gone lame. Therefore, here is a photo from our photo vault for what will be a short competition this week.

Apologies all - have been travelling and totally missed this one  . Also BB I'm heading off to a mine site in Mauritania tomorrow and haven't got a clue as to Internet connection/quality. Rather than cause more problems ( ), can I swap with one of the other judges - I'll be back in the UK on the 23rd.

Additionally - would be very sad to see the Caption Competition go. I for one have enjoyed it immensely :thumb:
