I've only watched the first couple of episodes, but it looks very promising. I'm not sure how historically accurate it is, but there's enough intrigue, swashbuckling and naked Asian beauties to satisfy all tastes.
Top stuff, only two episodes in but this one is a keeper.

Apologies - thought this the best thread to post.....

"Christmas Epic Fails" - shown last night (UK) on ITV....... for those with Expat TV etc. it's well worth the watch. Cringe-worthy, jaw-dropping and belly laugh entertainment....... with a couple of beers of course!!

:agree: Following DM and Buksi comments I downloaded (via PB) and watched the first and then having been enthralled binge watched the rest in 2 evening sessions.

It then led me to read up via 'Doctor Google' about Mongolia, Genghis Khan, Kublai Khan and Marco Polo

You're never to old to learn. Shame they never used to teach this stuff in history lessons at school

Ditto, sod all to do but drink at this time of year so made a dent in the sofa and downloaded Marco Polo.

A good mix of war, martial arts and naked asia women. What more can you ask for from a tv show?

A bit more than that I thought, although they are all perfect ingredients for a good historic movie. I particularly enjoyed the clear thinking logical verbal passages reflecting eastern thinking. For some of us it is maybe an insight as to how an eastern mind works

I suppose you are right Richard, we do get a little insight into ancient Mongol customs etc, however as mentioned in an earlier post, you'd have to question the actual fact of such a tale.

For myself, I'll take it for what it is and if I'm inclined to discover the facts I'll buy a suitable book to do so.

For those with an interest in nature, David Attenborough's 'Life Story' is yet another amazing addition to his portfolio of such brilliance.

ELEMENTARY

Sherlock Holmes goes to New York as a consultant to NYPD and takes on a female Chinese American Watson as his associate.

I was skeptical, to say the least, when I started watching this, but have found it to be entertaining in its own right as a series loosely based on the Sherlock Holmes stories and another of the modern-day Sherlock variations on a theme. It's tempting to wonder how long it is before Holmes is written as a black, disabled lesbian or a 3-legged alien, but things aren't that bad yet.

There is no real comparison with the British series SHERLOCK, so let's not even go there. 24 episodes per series means that the plots and production values are sometimes predictably less than perfect, but nevertheless well worth a watch. Jonny Lee Miller is suitably unlikable and obsessive as Sherlock, and Lucy Liu as Watson, who starts out as his 'sober companion' before becoming his partner, is easy on the eye, once you get past the British protectiveness of the original Holmes-Watson setup.

Give it a try, but don't give up after the first episode or two. It grows on you.

GALAVANT

Well, I haven't even watched the first episode yet, apart from the opening sequence, but I felt compelled to share this immediately.

It's a musical comedy with a fairy tale theme about Prince Galavant's quest for revenge over the king who stole his one true love, who, in the opening sequence is described in song:

"Long legs and perfect skin,
A body built for sin,
With cleavage you could hold a whole parade in.
Ah! True love was never this ecstatic
Nor as wildly acrobatic.
Yes! He loved her to excess,
Thrice daily more or less,
And she'd be screaming - GA-LA-VAAANT!"

etc. etc.

I'll probably enjoy dipping into this as I enjoy musical theatre, but I doubt it will be to everyone's taste...

Okay, back to couchtuner.
