Wow, I really am out of touch. When we moved to Italy in 2010, we stopped watching TV because we couldn't get any familiar channels from the UK without paying a small fortune and Italian TV is absolute garbage. When we moved back last year, we just didn't pick the habit back up again, our TV is probably on less than a couple of hours each week. We watch the odd film and a few bits of iPlayer on the iPad but it seems that there's loads of great series to enjoy - I'm told Breaking Bad is a 'must watch'; now I just need to find the time.

I was much the same here. Didn't bother with TV at all and relied on downloaded movies. This thread and my UK based daughters switched me into some excellent series. Problem is you get so hooked you end up 'binge watching' until the early hours. I did so with Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, The Americans,Fargo, Orphan Black, Killing, This is England and........................many more

Top of my list is Breaking Bad closely followed by Fargo and GOT a close third

Yes

Forgot that one. That overtakes Fargo and takes the silver medal

My top picks include The Wire, Mad Men, Dexter seasons 1&2 (3&4 were good, the rest was crap). Going old school: The Sopranos, Band of Brothers & From the Earth to the Moon.

I haven't seen anyone mention Scorsese's "Boardwalk Empire"? I think it's in season 5 or 6 now. No interest, or not available? Pete

I watched the first 2 seasons and really liked it. Missed a bunch in the third so didn't want to get out of sequence. It's on the to catch up list (along with lots of others)

We're watching the final season now on TrueVisions. One of our favorites.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Is 5 really the final one? We'll finally get to see if and how everyone meets their end. Pete

^ I thought I saw that announced somewhere but I just did a search and can't find it so maybe I had a couple too many glasses of wine and just imagined it!

They've announced it as the last season, but Kurt Sutter, the creator, is talking about a prequel

Another series I'm finding interesting is "The Knick". It's a turn of the century (last century) story about the facilities and doctors in a famous New York hospital; The Knickerbocker. Good story line and acting. Worth a look imo.
