That's really nuts concerning Suarez. Extremely talented, but extremely mentally unbalanced as well it seems. :( I tend to agree with Caller. FIFA will act and Liverpool will be without him for the entire season, maybe two. He'll then be sold no doubt. I hope Liverpool doesn't have to pay him. Pete

On the evidence of last night it was hard to see how Costa Rica had managed to beat Uruguay and Italy but maybe they didnt need to get out of third gear against England.
But I felt there were some positives for the English.Foster looked assured in goal,18 year old Shaw looked very composed on his debut,20 year old Barkley showed some nice touches and Sturridge worked his socks off up front, deserving a goal although he did miss a couple.
But surely the end of the line for Steven and Frank.......

Suarez, great player but an absolute nutjob......should be out of the rest of the tournament and face a lengthy ban again.
We're all on our uppers,we're all going skint,

It will be interesting how this one unravels. There is no question that he took a nibble. I just wonder if a FIFA ban will extended to a domestic ban, not sure of the rules here.

If he is banned domestically, Liverpool face a huge dilemma. Do they sell him? Can they sell him? No doubting his footballing talent, but who would be interesting in paying top dollar for a proven liability? May be a cut price deal just to get rid, that is of course Liverpool even decide to turns their backs on him or maintain their loyalty to Suarez over their image.

Looking at it the other way around, don't domestic bans extend to international bans...i.e., Champions League matches? If so, I think this may extend to his coming Liverpool season.

An extract from a BBC article

"The world governing body's disciplinary code has scope to suspend a player for a maximum of two years or 24 matches - which, by the letter of the law, can include club games but is normally limited to internationals. Liverpool, Suarez's club, had no comment to make on Tuesday. They have been here before, of course, and dealt with the fallout."

Who knows what FIFA will do, will be interesting to see.

In not sure about domestic bans affecting international bans.

A 2 year international ban and allowing him to play domestically is a good deal for Luis and Liverpool in this instance.

The suggestions are starting (the Guardian being one) that it was the result of a shoulder charge and perhaps not an intentional bite? Just some creative journalism to stir the soup a bit it seems.

I would rather be bitten than have my ligaments torn by a malicious tackle. Weeks on crutches versus a couple of days of bite marks. How bad is being bitten anyway? My g/f does it when we play fight. Remember the famous picture of Gazza having his cods squeezed by Vinnie Jones? Wouldn't you prefer to be bitten? He's only a small man. How would you react to thuggish defenders if the ref isn't protecting you?

The Uruguay media aren't happy...

'Little attention is being paid to the swollen cheekbone Suarez suffered in an earlier clash with an Italy defender'. Uruguay's UNoticias (in Spanish)

'The English media have begun a campaign against Suarez'. Uruguay's El Observador (in Spanish)

He reacted after sustained provocation. If they punish him, they should also look at the Italians who targeted him.

I expect they will ban him for the rest of the tournament. If that doesn't teach him a lesson, then nothing will.

I'm actually in agreement with pharvey's naming of the sport 'Wendyball'. How on Earth does an International athlete get floored by a little peck on the shoulder? I'd guess he'd been goading Suarez all match, and eventually got the reaction he was looking for. To dramatise the situation he then took a dive.

We witnessed the over-reaction of the Italians when playing against England a few times, and it all amounts to dramatised cheating. I'm pleased to see the Italians out. Its just a shame to see a talent such as Suarez facing a potential 2 year ban.

We've seen this type of cheating at previous international tournaments e.g. Ronaldo winding Rooney up and then before that was Beckham being wound up.

This Italian's acting has basically ended the career of one of football's current greats.

Looks like these two have got history. Pictures of Suarez going for him a couple of years ago.

Biting people in anger/frustration/hatred, whatever the reason it's savage. The guy is an animal, needs putting down.

It must either be the Italian's after shave bringing the animal out in him, or the Italian just tastes nice :D
