My real concern is that when I donate something that my donation actually reaches the peolple it is meant for. Do other people share my concern?

I was in Hua Hin when the Tsunami disaster devastated the region - then left for India the next day to work in the petroleum industry in Rajasthan.

I declined a request to have aid relief deducted from my salary in India as I felt I would rather contribute to a fund in Thailand - having been based out of Thailand for the majority of my working life.

I have been keeping in touch with the Thai situation - with a somewhat macabre fascination - via the online Bangkok Post and recent stories were highlighting the plight of local villagers in Pang Nga queueing for hours and filling out endless paperwork and not receiving any aid, while living in tents unable to resume their previous occupations - particularly the fishermen.

My point and fear like Megagoblin is that the aid contribution I will make as soon as I am back in Thailand at the end of this month, does not get to the people who actually need it, and / or as soon as possible. I will feel better about contributing but easing my own conscience does not help the plight of those in need.

However like mjamuk I will send and hope.

Can anyone suggest a fund where the aid would most likely get through, I was thinking of the Red Cross any other suggestions .............

I agree that over sensationalism by the TV news people to paint a grimmer picture of Phuket and Krabi to "sell a better story" is disgusting.

But personally I would feel a bit guilty about enjoying a holiday in Phuket or any of the affected areas right now, knowing that so many people had lost their lives there so recently.
