Post by blue05 »

one place i have been goung to a lot recently and deserves 5 thumbs up for quality and price

Donjais Danish Restaurant on the railway road 30m from soi 80

The quality and quantity of food is just amazing

Order the meatballs and you get a plate of meatballs. a big bowl of fried or boiled potatoes, a bowl of red cabbage, a bowl of gravy and a serving of pickles, all for 190bt

They also have a daily roast pork which is massive and has crackling on every slice

Twice a month or so he does a roast lamd dinner wich is the best I have had and only 280bt

well well worth a visit, its next door to the kids karate gym

If this helps anyone, it's the restaurant that used to be called Pung Plui (sp) before it changed to the current ownership.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

What's the bowl of cabbage for? I wonder if I could ask an extra meatball instead. :duck:

Sounds good (apart from the cabbage) so will maybe give it a try sometime. Thanks for posting.

The red cabbage is similar to sauerkraut but is a bit sweeter. Made from shredded cabbage, vinegar, sugar, water and salt that is put in a casserole and heated up then simmer for 1 hour.

Used a lot in Denmark, in Norway more used for the Christmas dinner. In Norway we use more a similar side dish made with ordinary cabbage for dinner.

I'm half Norwegian on my mothers side and I can assure you that Scandi red cabbage is delicious. I regularly make it myself. Goes well with bangers and mash.

Danish frikadeller (meat balls) with gravy, red cabbage, potatoes, cucunber salad. Yummi yummi. Can't wait. See you Sunday.
By the way, Gert has been involved in quite e few Danish-style restaurants over the years in Hua Hin. He once had what is today the Fat Cat near the pier, later another restaurant on the RR, and the latest was a major Danish Restaurant near the Soy Bean Tabac district. All with dubious commercial success. But his cooking abilities remain super as far as traditional Danish food goes.
Enjoy (Velbekomme) !

Germans and Polacks also have red cabbage salad but they tend to be more on the sour side. Try the Danish version and you will be pleasantly surprised. It is also served with pork roast.
