The Car Challenge

I accidentally found it while looking for a German sports car of the same era.

Now I know why it's familiar, a chap who lived down the road from us had one but not this model, he had a later model with big square tail lights above the bumper. I didn't even know they made an earlier model. It was a nice car, he also had a Fiat X1/9 which rarely worked either.

I'll leave it for the others. Suffice to say, it so obvious once you know what it is.

It's quite rare in the UK. Apparently just 6 registered on the road, so I was told...in the UK that is . Not German but from another European country.

I was waiting to see if anybody else came up with an answer, but it certainly looks like a Matra, not sure about the model but could be a Bagheera. Matra were quite a force in F1 and F2 in the 60's and 70's but for some reason faded away.

I would be more inclined to say that it's a Renault

It is definitely a Renault, the guy who used to live near me had a later model, started with a 6, not a ?.

Yes I think you're correct, an Alpine A310 to be precise although very similar appearance to the Matra

I found it looking for a Melkus.
The guy I knew had an A610, the later model, which was a lot more Americanised looking but still had the same funny hip (the car not the guy) and the same inability to go anywhere without throwing vast sums of money at it.

Yes correct, well done chaps. I watched it on wheeler dealers. They thought it was.a terrific car, they brought it back from france and did it up.
