registering a second hand car

i have just brought a second hand car , and it is regisetred in bangkok ( number plate etc ) although i brought it in HH

i have the blue book and everything but i need to put the car officially in my name .

where do i go to do this ? is there a place in HH . i have been told i might have to go to prachuab khri khan or pranbui ..

i'm not to worried about changing the licence plates ( bangkok ) so would prefer to do it somewhere closer to home

oretty sure it is pranburi, you could try the garage at the takiab u turn as i know they do bikes or sure---may just do cars too

if its a bkk number plate changing to here its prachuab kiri khan ,pretty sure its the same with the blue book to change name too ,after the first visit it takes a couple of weeks then you have to go back to swap plates and pick up the book ,they will not post them

Yes just before Prechaub, there is an English speaking ' fixer' that will help you through the process. Takes about an hour if not too busy... Take a screwdriver to take off old plates and put on new.

Just to be sure you have the forms signed by previous owner. Two forms from Transport Office, copy of passport and visa and entry all signed.

can i just keep the old plates on though and get it done local somewhere ? or does that mean going to bangkok to register me as the owner of the car ? in which case that would be a daft option

or does the car have to be registrered and have plates of the same province the owner is living in ?

a bit different to the UK

prachuab is quite a way , have you any idea what the official name of the office is there ?

Spot on…

I bought a car from Chonburi but my name was put in the blue book as we registered it here first!

Drove it to Prachiap kirikhan and with a Thai speaking helper registered it here. I just had my passport and blue book.

I returned 2 weeks later and got new local plates and Blue book also amended. They keep Blue book but you get a receipt.

I remember the licensing place travelling from Hua Hin was just before you enter Prachuap Kirikhan on the righthand side.

When you see the Nisan dealer on the right side you need to do a U turn and return on the opposite carriageway. There are some light coloured purple buildings next to the licensing plate. From Samporprong its no more than 1 hr 15 mins.

I could be wrong, but I thought they got rid of the 'must change plates to registered province' rule last year, and now it is OK to have 'non-provincial' plates on a provincial car.

Yes its OK to leave original plates on.

Do a google search and ring Pranburi first maybe you can do here.
