It won't be the lack of automatic updates. MS, in their wisdom (read greed) made the new software less compatible with earlier versions. Unless somebody chooses the save as 'Word 97 - 2003' option, you are going to have the same compatability problem. Therefore, you need to check what version the Internet Cafe is using (you need a minimum of Office 2010) before you commit to their services, which is why I said you were welcome to pop around this morning, or e-mail the document to me.

Having said the above, I believe there was an easy fix produced by MS because they received so many complaints.

'buildathome'

In FF I'm continually getting a pop up about Avast discovering a malicious site and it appears to be the above

Seen instructions on how to remove it from IE but has anybody experienced the same with FF and if so how (in lay-mans terms) do you remove it please?

My question would be, 'Why isn't Avast dealing with it?'

There must be some security holes in the last couple of versions of FireFox. I use 5 or 6 different forms of privacy, security, anti-virus, safe-surfing programs regularly and have never had any security problems. In fact when I run scans from the most popular programs all they ever find is tracking cookies, yet for a couple of months now I am getting (Thai) advertizing popup tabs and new windows in FF. I even have pop-ups blocked in the browser but still get these adds once or twice a day.

I've been a FireFox fan and user since its inception, but I'm thinking about going to Chrome if this doesn't stop.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I get the odd popup from kickass torrents but not much else, FF is plagued by hundreds of stupid add-ons and toolbars which usually cause the problems people have with it. As a stand alone browser its pretty solid. More info: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=22382&start=13

Finally got rid of buildathome

FF...Help>trouble shooting information>reset firefox

Guess this may get rid of lot's of crap too

I'm a long time FF user and have tried others but feel comfortable and familiar with FF. Old age and creature of habit now I guess

I've used FF for a number of years now. I use 'Private Browsing Mode', do not accept 3rd party cookies and run DoNotTrackMe in parallel - I don't have any issues or popups or even have ads appearing in HH forum threads.

File/data recovery programs - urgent

Post by dtaai-maai »

I've lost a Word file. I shut down my pc this morning, now I can't find the file I was working on.

I've used all the obvious routes I can think of - 'search programs & files'
It's not in the Recycle Bin.
It's not in the temp folder.

I'm going to have a look at these free data recovery programs on Google, but I have no idea what I'm doing.

Any advice or recommendations much appreciated.
This is the way

Comodo Ice Dragon

Loaded this to check it out as a backup/replacement of FF as I've heard several good reports about it. My first problem seems to be importing bookmarks. Will load them from IE, Chrome and Safari but not FF.

Any advice from current users gratefully received
