Try "Dettol" available from Tesco.Pedro C wrote:In my home country we use a disinfectant fluid named Rodalon to disinfect refrigerators. It also removes mildew from clothes etc. It comes in a handy spray bottle. It is not a soap or cleanser rather than an anti fungus or mildew agent specifically made for refrigators.
Is there an equivalent product in Thailand and if so what is it's name (in Thai)?? Wife cannot locate any such in Tesco.
Rodalon disinfectant for fridge and clothes

Dettol is a very strong "hospital grade" disinfectant that has been in use for over 50 years that I know of. I would be very wary of using it in a refrigerator, as it has a very strong residual odour that is difficult to remove, even with weak solutions mixed with water.Lung Per wrote:The Thai disinfectant turned out to be a spray cleaner and not a disinfectant.
I shall now try another product which I came across in Tesco. It's name is Dettol, written the same way.
According to the label it has multiple disinfecting applications.
Thanks for your input an suggestions.
Any of the milder forms of disinfectant mentioned in this thread would be better. After you have cleaned it a wipe over the inside surface with a cloth dipped in vanilla essence will give the fridge a long lasting sweet odour.

May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!

Use some hydrogen peroxide - very cheap, and very effective. Also very environmentally friendly. Use it straight from the bottle or dilute with a bit of water. And while you're at it, soak your fruit and veg in a weak solution to kill all the nasties, and you'll notice they'll keep longer. Throw out your bleach as well, and use this instead. Brilliant stuff!

Where do you buy hydrogen peroxide in quantity? I've never really looked, but all I can recall seeing are rather small bottles. How much would you use in a load of laundry?

I can not believe I an giving gleaning tips on Christmas day but here goes.
Wife swears by white vinegar as a cleaner/disinfectant, and as a means of removing mould from hard surfaces in the fridge and around rhe kitchen.
Always had an open box of baking soda in the fridge to absorb the smells, however have just made containers for bulk baking soda by drilling holes in the lids of the free boxes given with butter.
Another traditional way of absorbing odors in the fridge is a peeled cut in half large onion.
Recently we found mould on othe first pleat of our bedroom curtains, must be the damp air entering. After testing, was removed with upolstery cleaner, avoiding the risk with dry cleaning, HG spot and stain from Home Pro.
Now use Farcent de humidifiers in wardrobes, 99 Baht for 3 of the disposable types (pink lids) from home Pro. Amazing the a mount of water they collect in a few days and also impart a mild pleasant smell to the wardrobe contents.

I usually buy bottles from one of the many pharmacies, which I think are 500ml bottles. I'm sure you could also find larger bottles if you scout around enough, or if you order some from a pharmacy. For clothing, I often use it instead of bleach. I just pour a bit into a bucket of water and then allow the clothes to soak for a while. Remember though, if you add too much in, it will cause the same damage to your clothes as bleach would. This explains why my kid now has a pink badge on her karate top rather than a brown/maroon.

BTW.......it's no more expensive than bleach either so a good choice all around.
