Not DVD but on TCM as we speak, the 1935 version of David Copperfield. Hit the movie description button on True and it Says, "Story about the life of one of the greatest magicians of our times....". Talk about a generation gap and someone with no clue working at True.

Re: Movies on DVD
Ok....two blockbusters to review....so here we go
JOHN CARTER OF MARS
This big budget Disney "adult" classic space opera has got a bit of a slating by some critics, and didnt do that well at the box office. I dont know why as I thoroughly enjoyed it, and thought it was reminiscent of Star Wars Pt1 and 2, albeit wthout the annoying Jar Jar Binks character....this is more like Conan on Mars.
Captain John Carter is an embittered ex Confederate cavalry officer who after the end of the war turns to gold prospecting, in search of a legendary cave of gold on Apache territory. When he does eventually find the cabe he is attacked by a mysterious bald monk, who he kills, and whizzo next thing he knows he wakes up on Barsoom (Mars) and is thrown headlong into a three way conflict between three tribes of Martians (two human and one non human) steered by the sinister monk type race for their own evil gains.
Its eye poppng CGI filled fun and well worth the download and watch. Proper old school grand space opera based on classic sci fi novels from the golden age of sci fi. Solid gold keeper material in my book, and sod the critics.
Next up theres the WW2 epic goggles and guns flyboy flick RED TAILS which has also been raisng hackles n the critosphere. Some have lauded it, some have hammered it....I thought it was top class eye candy and had a ripping if somehwta cliched plot and script. Maybe they should just avoid the stupid "based on real events" caveat at the start (that always gets flak from some)and avoid all the hoo hah. I dont care....if I want to watch a history program I watch a documentary.
Anyways, this is about the Tuskagee Airmen, a unit of black pilots who despite segregation in the military during WW2 managed to show the air force they were just as good as the regular white pilots. Its a fictionalised account, and is a bit cliched and hammy, but its high adrenaline stuff and the CGI air dog fight and bombing run sequences are excellent.
Well worth a download and a solid keeper IMHO.
Both are now out and about in crisp DVDRIP formats all over the place.

Re: Movies on DVD
Ok, one for fans of the great Peninsula War era SHARPE series.
BRUC - THE MANHUNT
This Catelan production concerns Juan, a young drummer boy in the ragtag Spanish army who manage to deliver Napoleon's Grande Armee a bloody nose at the battle of Monserrat. The news reports credt young Juan and his bravery with swinging the battle, and so old Nappy chucks a teddybear, and orders a trusted and ruthless commander to track the lad down and lop off his head. The commander sets out with his equally ruthless band of cut throats, and when Juan escapes he turns his soldiers loose on Juans village. Emerging from the smoking ruins Juan has only one mission now....kill every single one of the Frenchmen that destroyed his village and family.
Its rippng high adventure stuff, filmed and acted beautifully, and top quality historical drama of the sort that the French and Spanish studios seem to be able to produce like mustard burps.....really its a joy to watch, especially for Sharpe or Hornblower fans of historical military films. At 1hr20m its a bit short by my mark, but all the same its top drawer stuff and a solid keeper.
I found a very watchable and fully subbed version at http://www.1channel.ch/watch-2344047-Bruc-the-Manhunt, and its my hot tip of the week for a quality watch. If flash video capture and download isnt your bag there are excellent DVDRIPs at all the usual suspect sources.

Re: Movies on DVD
Pirate Bay has been receiving DOS (denial of service) attacks. They're up and down.

A movie I haven't seen for a couple of years but just enjoyed my 43rd viewing. Heads and shoulders above any comedy - the best of our time (couple of thousand years apparantly
) ....

Pirate Bay is working fine on this end... use it 5-50 times a day! Better not start cracking!

The Pirate Bay, one of the world’s largest file sharing websites, has returned after a days-long distributed denial of service (DoS) attack. Nyre, a hacker once loyal to the Anonymous collective but who has now gone rogue, took responsibility for the attack.

When pirate bay is down, a torrent file (which contains only info about the file one wants to download, not the file itself) from pirate bay would continue to work if the file had info for the torrent on other servers.

I must have missed a days usage there somewhere then.
Use it pretty much all the time... maybe that day passed me in a blur of drunkeness.

Just watched 'The Crow' again after someone (SM I think) mentioned it. Had forgotten how good the movie is and the music too

I agree with you there Richard. Used to be one of my faves but haven't seen it for 7 or 8 years now (seen it maybe 30+ times). Downloading now to be watched in half hour. Cheers.

Re: Movies on DVD
That prompts a question. How many movies are you all compelled to go back and watch over and over again? How many times do you delete a movie and then regret it and download?GLCQuantum wrote:^

My list is endless
The ledge
Eastwood movies
LOTR
Nicholson movies
to name but a few.
