It's had half decent reviews actually, there's a dumb and dumber sequel in the works too with the original cast.

Re: Movies on DVD
Recently got round to watching 'The Ledge'. Excellent movie and a real tear jerker so thanks for the recc's.
BTW sometimes I think of a movie I'm up for watching but can't be arsed to wait for the download so check youtube. I keep getting pleasantly suprised with the variety of movies on there. The Ledge was there in a good copy. It's a bit hit and miss but it takes less than a minute to check so worth it IMO.

Baa Baa...
I'm actually a big fan of the American Pie series... and a couple of the spinoffs
. Didn't know there was a new Dumb and Dumber in the pipe line. Loved the first... hated the second, but back with the original cast I'm sure there's gonna be a good few giggles involved. Harmless easy watching stuff.

Re: Movies on DVD
I think I have already reviewed both of these in pervious posts when they did the rounds in not very good R5 releases (that seem to be the new trend....crappy R5s) but as both are now doing the rounds in lovely crisp BDRIP formats, and are available at oneclickmoviez and elsewhere in reasonable sized formats (use Google eh?) they are both worth a re-mention.
First up we have Danny "Harry Potter" Radcliffe in THE WOMAN IN BLACK. He plays a young recently widowed lawyer who is employed to sort out the estate of a spinster who lived in a remote and creepy as hell house. When he gets there he finds the villagers live in fear of her ghost, as when it appears some kids die. As the story unravels you find out why the ghost is so vengeful, and Danny tries to end the plague that she is on the vllagers. This version is extremely well done, and has a lovely gothic chiller feel about it. Well worth a download, and a solid gold keeper IMHO.
Which can also be said for the muscular and sweat dripping version of the Shakespeare classic CORIOLANUS that Ralph Fiennes has brought to the big screen. Ralph and Gerard Butler play two sworn enemies battling it out in a version of Rome set in the modern Balkans conflct. Ralph defeats Gerard, and on returning to Rome is made a senator, then a consul. Unfortunately he is a born soldier and hates the "mob", so when a food shortage hits Rome his populist enemies in the Senate kpper him up, and have him exiled. Revenge is now his only motivation, and Rome must pay. This is a masterpiece, and the setting is absolutely spot on. The cast is stellar RSC A listers, and so the performances are a joy to watch and listen to, with Ralph dripping fury and hate every time he speaks. Its a powerhouse of stunning imagery and passionate prose, and sends tingles up my spine, standing nobly side by side with Anthony Hopkins' similar Shaky update masterpeice TITUS, McKellen's RICHARD III and Branagh's HENRY V. Utter solid gold classic stuff, and a must see for fans of the bard.

Re: Movies on DVD
well on the recc of an earlier poster I dropped and watched CHRONICLE, and despite the fact that it uses the (IMHO) much overused shakey cam Blair Witch/Cloverfield style, and that it seems to be very heavily based on the basic plotline of the Japanese manga classic AKIRA, I loved it.
Three teenage lads who are attending a high school rave party come across a mysterious shaft in a forest clearing, and so drunk and dumb like all teenagers decide to take a look at whats down at the bottom. It turns out to be some sort of living meteorite, and they activate its powers. The meteor zaps them, and the three wake up later with only fuzzy memories of what happened. They also wake up to find they now have telekenetic powers that seem to grow the more the use them. Initially they use them to play daft pranks on people, but as the powers develop one of the three, the one that has been bullied endlessley at school and home, takes on a darker side, and things rapdly turn from fun to something more serious and dangerous for all around them.
Its really well done, and a compelling watch with some tasty plot twists and turns all the way to the end. Even if you have seen AKIRA, and can guess how its going to turn out, its still a great watch. The special effects are corking, especially in the last 20 minutes. One of the main reasons t works is that even though the basc premise is pure fiction IF three young lads dd get such powers you would expect thngs to pan out the way they do in the film....so instead of the usual nonsense motivations and actions Hollywood seems to inflict on characters this one rings true to life. Top stuff.
Out and about all over the place in DVDRIP format, and a solid three cheers keeper.

'THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO'
Sorry MrS, we must have been watching different films.
Another virtuous Hollywood spellbinder dragging society into the gutter. A gripping yarn if you like crudity, sadism, sodomy, lesbianism, marital infidelity and defamation of Christianity.. (verses from scripture used in mutilating murder). Toss in the obligatory reminder of Nazis, and Jews as victims theme. Get yourself off with slo-mo sex scenes. Also a good 'how-to' on torture for the brutes to pick up and practice in American and 'secret' prisons, and graphic blood-splatter. 4 million Satanists in the U.S. will no doubt applaud this addition to the moral and cultural destruction of white Christian society.
Perverse, dark, immoral.
My Thai g/f pointed out American movies show too much of the body. That it isn't allowed in Thai movies. She said 'Why falang say all Thai women are prostitutes, when American women look the same?'
Hollywood's social engineers are doing their job well.

If I remember correctly, the film is about 2 and a half hours long. From your comments, Mr P, you must have suffered through every minute of it.

Nope. I hid behind the sofa during the more brutal and sickening parts, especially the bit where she kicks the sex toy deeper into his anus.dtaai-maai wrote:If I remember correctly, the film is about 2 and a half hours long. Film make any mention of the Tuskagee Airmen who were still in the Air Force during the Vietnam war? I'd describe but don't want to be a spoiler.Terry wrote:Take a look at REDTAILS - nope not the fish - another rendering of the antics of the Tuskagee squadron.

I hadn't watched it when I mentioned it SM but agree with every word, fantastic film. I think that Hollywood AKIRA has gone down the pan due to budget, fingers crossed!sandman67 wrote:well on the recc of an earlier poster I dropped and watched CHRONICLE, and despite the fact that it uses the (IMHO) much overused shakey cam Blair Witch/Cloverfield style, and that it seems to be very heavily based on the basic plotline of the Japanese manga classic AKIRA, I loved it.

Re: Movies on DVD
To flm buffs there are two names that will send shivers of horror down their spines.... Uwe Boll, possibly the worst film director and producer ever, and the studio The Asylum. The Asylum make a lot of "fleas"....they watch what Hollywood is making and then pre-empt the release with their own cheeep as chips knockoff version using lots and lots of cut rate CGI and a cast of B list hammys and a rotating list of "stars". These usually then end up being shown on Sci-Fi channel at 2am in the morning, or occasionally over here on Max Channel.
Anyway, two recent dogs they have released are NAZIS AT THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH that has jumped on the IRON SKY premise of Antarctic Nazi 4th Reich bases and UFOs, and ABRAHAM LINCOLN VS ZOMBIES that jumps on the soon to be released ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER plot.
Both are cheep as cheep can get, and both are Ed Wood level PLAN 9 style B movie dogs of the first stamp. They both have ther good bits interspliced with a big whallop of dross and splatter, and the actng is uniformly terrible amateur dramatics stuff. NAZIS has a fun fun cyber Adolf for laffs, and ZOMBIES has plenty of head chopping splat. Thats as much as I can say.
Its a case of Caveat Emptor....buyer beware. They are, at best, chewng gum for the eyeballs and a filler when theres nothng else to watch.
Out and about all over the place like a dose o crabs
I'm off to wipe the gum off my eyes with some Harry Palmer spy classics and maybe some Odessa File for puddin.
