Re: How to get rid of 'Bing' suggestions

Thanks very much Spitfire...

After your post I started to uninstall all the crap that I didn't recognize (iminent especially which I thought may be the root of the problem) but then I remembered this that you said...
If you use Firefox then also block Google tracking too.
Ahh. I normally use firefox but once the computer was reformatted I have been using IE out of forgetfulness/laziness really. Just installed Firefox and everything's sound now.

Cheers again.

Never used Chrome TBH mate. What are the benefits in comparison to Firefox before I uninstall and install again.

Chrome is fast but it's Google's browser, so it'll arse-rape you on the privacy front.

It's just faster, cleaner and lighter, I was a massive Firefox until I dumped it a few weeks ago as it became a bloated pig.

Not arsed on the privacy front, we all use Google anyway.

To quote Macaulay Culkin.... 'I'll give it a whirl'.

TBH, I currently don't have much that anyone could be interested in regarding the privacy issue. No internet banking, no-one I'm hiding from and no 'illegal' fetishes (just good 'ol regular porn) so I should be okay. :D

Again... Thanks Spitfire and Baa Baa

Now running on Chrome... will see how it fairs.

Now around my 'post a reply' box (where I'm writing now), and the log in/password boxes I have a deep shade of orange rather than a blue (I think) so I'm already reaping the rewards. :D

Spot on, Firefox rocks, never ever had a problem with it and have installed on hundreds of different machines - those that do probably have other issues with their computers causing it to be cranky (ie. still using XP or having less memory than a goldfish!).

Yup, I agree.

I need a *good* reason to change. I don't see the point in changing for the sake of it. People who say 'Chrome is better' I always challenge with 'Why?' So far I've not been given one reason that makes me think 'ah yea, I need that'.

Hell, I was using Yahoo as my default search engine all the way up to a few years ago when they changed (ruined) the layout.

The only reason I installed Chrome was to test some of my websites with it, as it has some 'interesting' interpretations of certain javascript syntax.

Had a few problems with FF regarding using GMAIL so switched to OPERA but since FF upgrades it's back to being my no1. OPERA is good though IMO

Having some major issues with USB Pendrives for some reason. I was transferring a few films from the computer (2 successfully), then on the 3rd I was given the error message that the drive was write protected and could no longer copy or delete files. I tried another pendrive and was immediately given the same error message. I have used both drives previously on numerous occasions without issue, so this is somewhat baffling. :? :?

I dredged the Internet for solutions and after trying on one of the drives have been left with a drive that I need to now format before use - which I am unable to do.... Now getting the message "unable to complete format" :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Any advice on removing write protection and completing the format would be greatly appreciated.

Have you put them in a Mac recently? USB drives can get cranky after they have been 'Appled'. Also try using a different port, could be that.

Hmm where did you get the pen drives from? There's a huge amount of fakes around, which are essentially 2Gb drives made to look like bigger drives to the computer. The drive will work fine up to its original capacity then get all kinds of problems.

You should test *all* PEN Drives and memory cards, regardless of where you got them from, with h2testw to make sure it's genuine.

Had a problem connecting to the internet yesterday which required I contact Sky, who provide the service. It was possibly a firewall issue (as identified by windows) and lots of re-setting was required. At the end, some sites could be accessed and others not and some didn't appear as they should. It was left that it could be a computer problem or a router problem and to test with another device.

Anyway, did a basic check-up this morning, changed security and privacy settings and got rid of any home page (it was the beeb and Sky told me there have been some issues about accessing that - maybe because of the new cookie law here in the UK?). Whatever, there was also a critical automated download from Microsoft this morning and it all seems to be working fine now - apart from the fact Norton won't scan?

It downloads updates in 'real time' okay, but whatever I do, I can't get it to scan, whether a quick scan, full scan or even a custom scan, so for example, I set it to scan folders, then press scan and nothing. When I check the last scans, it shows the last full scan as being on the 12th May, which it says was 'cancelled' (it may have been a hidden scan and I switched off?) and for a quick scan, it tells me that was yesterday at 7.23am and that too was cancelled.

Edit - can't check my Norton settings either.

Any ideas? All help appreciated.

Fixed the above - with on-line support from Norton. Seemed an installation had failed?
