Premier League 2011-2012
Re: Premier League 2011-2012
It looks like the real Gerrard is back.
Fantastic cameo from one of the best players in the world.
He will hopefully take us up another level.

^^Hopefully, because it didn't look as though anyone else was ready to step up to the mark.
Adam and Henderson were ordinary at best against feeble opposition.
Spearing looked decent in patches.
Downing runs quite fast.
Up front, Carroll is now beginning to look increasingly tree-like.
Bellamy was quite a handful - stroppy little Welsh terrier who gets up the nose of most opponents, but probably the sort of bloke you like to have on your side. Still quite nippy for his age. He's been a good signing.
I've always liked Kuyts, but Kenny doesn't seem to?
Couldn't really assess the defence as Newcastle were, frankly, pathetic.
But they still looked as though they might snatch a draw until Captain Fantastic scored.
Gerrard must be nearly 50 now - how much longer will he be around?
Next game for Liverpool against Man City, with Suarez and (presumably) Gerrard - then we'll really see what they've got.
No bearing on the outcome of the game, but I was reminded what a lottery stoppage time is. 3 minutes at the end of the 1st half, when I don't remember any stoppages at all, then 4 at the end of the game, after umpteen substitutions, a few injuries, etc.

Nearly 50, he's a week older than me, 31.
I'd say he's got 3 seasons left, only problem is his games always been based on power, pace and explosiveness. No idea if he can adapt when that leaves him ala Giggs.
You couldn't have summed up Bellamy any better, I work with a City fan and Newcastle fan, both love the guy. Gerrard says in his book that he's a top guy and pro too, although I imagine the opposition hate him, he's always in their ear.
Kuyts had his share of gametime, I love the guy but he's never been blessed with technique, hopefully he'll be picked tactically and stick around as a squad player. Can never fault his effort.
Regarding our defence, we've got the best backline in the league atm, Aggers strung 10 games together for the 1st time in his LFC career and has always had the potential to be one of the best, Skrtel has even been dominant. Enrique is just a beast and a bargain.

"....and he provided several goalscoring chances for team-mate Andy Carroll in his 30-minute cameo....." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/16369428.stm
Gerrard is acting like a big brother and prodding the boy along. That's good, and I hope it pays off with a few goals from Carroll to get his head straightened out. Pete

Gerrard could provide Carroll the right service with his eyes closed, he's one of the best players to ever play in the league and vying with Dalglish as the best Liverpool player ever.
Shame the lad will probably never win a league title, he's got a European Cup
though.

Not sure what to make of it, he was a beast at Newcastle.
Re: Premier League 2011-2012
There's probably an easy answer to this for you guys in the UK......but why does Berbatov go many matches doing nothing, then in one match seems to score 2-3 goals?
I don't know what his record actually is but it seems each time he's newsworthy, it's because of a hat rick or at least 2. Pete

Re: Premier League 2011-2012
To be fair to the bloke (not easy, I promise you), he's not starting regularly and that has to be a factor. He started today, though and gave away a penalty: Man U 0 - 1 Blackburn at half time!!
Can't see it lasting, sadly.

Berbatovs an odd one, top top draw on occasion. Over 30, cost 30 million, not under any scrutiny, RARELY plays for Man Utd.
No questions asked.
Odd that.

In footballing terms he's what's known as a flat track bullyprcscct wrote:There's probably an easy answer to this for you guys in the UK......but why does Berbatov go many matches doing nothing, then in one match seems to score 2-3 goals?I don't know what his record actually is but it seems each time he's newsworthy, it's because of a hat rick or at least 2. From a sports writers column recently
His goalscoring record against the better teams is poor.EXPECT Dimitar Berbatov to be right up for Blackburn at Old Trafford tomorrow.
His last 19 league goals (15 at home) have come against Rovers (5), Birmingham (4), Wigan (3), Blackpool, Sunderland, Fulham (2) and Wigan (1). Flat-track bully, moi?
He's also lazy & not a real team player imo

He is though a very skilful & talented player & will probably go out & score a hat-trick the second half

No doubt he's skillful, no doubt he's lazy.
That post sums him up beautifully.

Re: Premier League 2011-2012
As predicted, he's just netted 2 in the last 10 minutes to pull back a 2 goal deficit.
Championship Plymouth Argyle 1 - 2 Leeds Utd
Points 46; Position 23 RELEGATED
