I don't mind that, as long as you win the one after

Here's an interesting little snippet from Yahoo following the weekend's sporting injustices.
Arsenal promoted despite finishing fifth in the second division

The expansion of English football's top flight from 20 to 22 teams in 1919 - the first season since 1914-15 - caused huge controversy. The existing method for expanding divisions had been to send up the top two sides from the second division, in this case Derby and Preston, while retaining the bottom two relegated clubs.

The league's top brass decided to hold a ballot to choose the clubs which would feature in the top division, with the First Division's bottom two sides Chelsea (19th) and Tottenham (20th) expected to be voted back into the league, as in previous years. Yet the chairman of Liverpool, amid accusations of skulduggery, match fixing pay-offs and bribery, made an impassioned speech to call for the promotion of Arsenal despite the fact that they'd only finished fifth in the previous second-division season.

Amazingly, his advice was heeded and Arsenal were voted into the top flight at the expense of - you've guessed it - Tottenham. Fans of both Spurs and Barnsley (who'd finished third in the Second Division) were understandably furious.

The Gunners have been in the top flight ever since.

But I still thought we started with the wrong tactics / formation, but at least this time, he did something about it! We ceded so much space that I thought we were in for a re-run of the Liverpool game. :(

We'll probably lose our next match?
Who could ever doubt a coach as gifted as Andre Villas-Boas ? :)
United,pretty awful for the last 3 months,only 2 points behind Citeh !
I suppose, after the excellent results against Newcastle,Valencia and now Citeh, that the Chelsea tops will be coming out of mothballs again and be worn by farangs in Thailand over the Xmas period ! 8)
We're all on our uppers,we're all going skint,

Some people carry their grudge and envy for a long time. :? Next the Spurs fans will probably claim that it was Wenger who talked Arsenal into the old first division in 1919. :D

Nothing theoretical about that, matey! Indisputable conspiracy fact, that's what it is! We was robbed! And Liverpool have to take their share of the blame! :guns: :butt:

The usual Spurs fan`s obsession with Arsenal. Why can`t you just accept that Arsenal are a much classier club than THFC will ever be?

Swindon were relegated from the top flight after winning promotion through the play offs in 1990.
Charged with making 35 illegal payments, they were relegated 2 divisions but cut to 1 after appeal.

Four years later the spuds were caught fiddling & making 40 illegal payments.
Punished with £600k fine, a ban from the fa cup & 12 point deduction.
Reduced on appeal to just a fine, though increased to £1.5 million.

So you got away with that relegation as compensation, probably through a few more illegal payments.

ps when is 'arry's court case due for . . . . . irregular financial transactions

Just keeps getting more and more ridiculous, doesn't it. By the time the youth of today are old enough to turn pro, they'll probably have to stop and bow to their opponent after each and every bump. Pete

It's just morning Friday in London and I understand the Suarez hearing is today. Could someone post the results over night Thai time so we know in the morning here if he'll play this weekend. Thanks. Pete
