2nd one today - Anyone can recommend a good painter
2nd one today - Anyone can recommend a good painter
We're in need of getting the house outside and perimeter walls painted and would like to know if anyone has had good experiences with the local trades that do this. If anyone has info they can pass on it would be gratefully appreciated.
Re: 2nd one today - Anyone can recommend a good painter
We have had experiences with several local painters, but unfortunately, none of those experiences have been good. Good luck and if you find a good one (you won't know until six months after the job is finished), let us all know.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I thought that you had you own "in-house" painter?hhfarang wrote:We have had experiences with several local painters, but unfortunately, none of those experiences have been good. Good luck and if you find a good one (you won't know until six months after the job is finished), let us all know.

That's the reason. We had such bad experiences with painters with the original paint job, when we had the outside redone earlier this year, and with several smaller jobs that we decided to hell with them. We can do the inside ourselves. Job is better and we saved about 40k baht!I thought that you had you own "in-house" painter?
Here's my little painter hard at work on an 8 meter high wall...

Dread to think what OSHA would think about your safety provisions.

I was moving furniture, removing and protecting window coverings, and holding that ladder (except when I walked away for a few seconds to take that photo).I like the "we" bit!
I told her that if I actually applied brush to wall I would have to have a work permit, or risk losing my visa...

Hey, that's the best professional extension ladder money can buy (and ship in a container from the USA...) much better than the cheap ladders or tied together bamboo poles they use here!Dread to think what OSHA would think about your safety provisions.

You need to make sure of the paint type/brand selection, and be sure they prepare/seal the walls properly especially if your going to change paint types, say from a latex to an epoxy as an example. I've also learned that many painters like to add water to everything even if it isn't called for or in the spec. Must be a bad habit left over from trying to save money when they are supplying the product rather than the customer buying it themselves. Pete

We got my wife's brother to paint our townhouse several years ago, (yeah, I know, silly me!). Unfortunately it wasn't a good job, and there was very little prep work done, so the paint started flaking off 6 months later.
We decided to do it again a few years later and I was introduced to a couple of younger Thai guys who had some painting experience. However I told them that their job was only to prep it and get it ready for painting, and that there was someone else coming to do the actual painting. So they spent about three days sealing, prepping etc and they did a good job. Then I gave the painting job as well.
I think if you give them a fixed price for the whole job they will be tempted to rush through the preparation and not do it properly.
