I usually moan about how short flms are - the ones that are under 1.5 hrs anyway - but with the PA franchise, that relies on long segments of nothing happening combined with the odd jump out of your seat scene and the inevitable it all goes crazy ending it feels every minute of a hour and a half. And to be frank its not only gettng boring now, its also loosng the plot entirely and going all la la land.

This is the "origins" story of the "Entity", and sees the two sisters from the previous two outings as little girls, one of whom has a not so imaginary friend called Toby. Unfortuantely for the eldest sister and mum and dad Tobys initially innocent pranks turn ever more violent. So as with the other 2 pops sets up the cameras, captures Tobys antics on film...etc etc etc.

Yes it has its good bits, but there is a lot of nothng inbetween, and the ending is just stupid in the extreme and done for that spinning bed and puking teen Excorcist grand guigniol jock pleaser effect. There are more plot holes than a fishing net...and that spols what could have been a good flick. Instead its more of the same old same old refried and served up to a goldfish brained fan base.

Its worth a watch, but not wth the current poor quality CAM and TS copies floating about as they render the nightvision camera scenes unwatchable and you loose most of the smaller "events" in the murk. A keeper? Nahhhhhhhh

Downloaded the 1st Season just as a test - watched the 1st episode on the laptop, and spot on quality. Working away, so didn't try it on the TV, but certainly good enough for those who watch on the computer screen - and at less than a GB for 6 hrs, can't be bad!!

I'm quite new to the downloading movie scene but came across, what I think, is an exceptional site. After using pirate bay for the last few months I clicked onto the link below (which is like a sister site of some sort I think) to have a looksie. My downloading time has gone through the roof. Before I could be waiting for a day... for one movie. Yesterday I downloaded 49 movies (total of 34.5 gigs) in less than 24 hours.

Now if all of the movies were mkv files I could have got over 100 movies for that storage. For those in the know are there any sites that are specifically mkv files only.

Cheers SM, I'll look into this format a bit more - whilst I'm sure the quality of the smaller "asd'' files will not be good enough for larger screens, it's certainly good enough for the Laptop whilst I'm working away. Certainly being able to download far smaller files is a great advantage - the Downton Abbey series 1 was 850mb odd rather than 16-18GB....

One movie in cinemas at the moment that seems to be getting a great deal of press, is "Anonymous" - starring Rhys Ifans and Vanessa Redgrave, it's a political thriller advancing the theory that it was in fact Edward De Vere, Earl of Oxford who penned Shakespeare's plays. Causing a bit of a stir in Shakespeare's hometown!! Certainly one I'll be taking a look at.

Another I'm going to looking out for in the coming weeks is ''In Time", a story set in the future future where people stop aging at 25, but are engineered to live only one more year, having the means to buy your way out of the situation is a shot at immortal youth.

I'll put this in here. The new Bond film (23rd) is called 'Skyfall' and will be directed by Sam Mendes......good choice. It's 50 years next year since Dr No came out and it was 'touch and go' whether this one would have been made as MGM filed for bankruptcy protection last year.

Just for info this, and sure we'll get a good report on it when the time comes.

Going back to the format posts above, must say I find it a little annoying that there are so few TVs and DVD players that play MKV files, although heard there was a new Sony out that does (don't want to know the price though). I've resorted to getting an HDMI cable from laptop to Plasma TV to play many of the movies/TV shows downloaded from sites like 'Fileserve' etc.

AVI is fine usually with home gadgets but have had audio issues with some files sometimes, ie not supported.

My old laptop now just sits by and is connected to the 50 inch plasma TV (via HDMI cable) to manage all the stuff it can't play without the laptop.

Yes, I could buy all new gadgets but that's not cheap these days, better just to do it with an old laptop and HDMI cable, along with a wifi mouse and keyboard.

exactly Spitfire....me too bro. Im sick of this todays tech is tomorrows betamax tech race kerfuffle. I stick to what I have and when a Luddite solution is there thats the one I choose.

Anyways, a quick review

APOLLO 18

Another found footage horror thriller flick, but at least this one can brag its not the usual ghost/possession/haunted house stuff.

This time the found footage in question is from a secret Apollo mission (they offcially ended wth Apollo 17 in real life) sent to the Lunar south pole to plant some secret listening devices to spy on the commies. All goes well till the 3 man team split, leavng one in the orbiter while the other two land on the moon. Those two start the mission, only to come across an abandoned Soviet lander and dead cosmonaut...and thats where things start to go seriously wrong, as it seems they are not alone.

The effects are pretty good for a low budget flick but the plot is just damn silly. After all, if as is the premise the mission went to tits how did the supposedly found footage get back to Earth? It also suffers from the usual found footage issues....long sessions of humdrum with some bits you need to replay and watch in minute detail to see whats happening, then 10 minutes of crazyness at the end. Finally, at 1 and a quarter hours long I've had longer lunchbreaks.....

Its still worth a watch, but its in no way worthy of a permanant home on the hard drive.

Out and about in all the usual places in good quality R5 DVDRIPs

One cheers for effort and thinking outside the box plotwise. As I said before, if you want to see how a good found footage flm is made watch the Japanese horror film NOROI (THE CURSE)...everything else is downhill from there.

When it comes to swords n sorcery fantasy flicks there is no better benchmark than CONAN THE BARBARIAN....it just has it all....triple strength vintage cheddar all the way served up on the finest of crackers. The closest anyone came after that was the almost as excellent SCORPION KING.

Shame to say but despite a big budget and some corking bits, the remake has none of that class, instead coming out as a sort of conference buffet individual servng processed cheddar substitute blocks on stale wafers. Yes there are some lovely fights, yes there are some epic feeling bits. but for a big budget flick its come out looking somehow cheap and "sci f channel TV flick", is as humourless as a wet Wednesday in Grimsby, and has not one single Arnie style "shnappy vun lyner" like



Damn and blast it! Ths had all the potential....a good cast of solid actors includng old Karl Drogo bloke as Conan and Rose McGowan as a naughty nasty sorceress (who in some ways saves the whole flick) and was made when you can have CGI make up for no end of budget lack...so why is it still so dry, humorless, and empty as my bank account? How???? How the hell in the age of cheap but excellent CGI do we get no mechanical dragons, no giant snakes, no big bad beasties and no wowzer transforming bad guy???? WTF????

One thng I will say is at least the changed the whole flick and didnt try to do a dumb and pontless scene for scene remake. But watch it and you will see what I mean....despite a massive budget it still comes out as washed out and crap lookng as a Kevin Sorbo sci-fi channel Hercules flick. Compared to SCORPON KING its as colourless, bland and lukewarm as a bowl of Ready BrekK porridge.

Well, as Im a fantasy flick geek its bound to be a keeper, but it scrapes two cheers and gets a spit in the eye for the dickwads who wasted a great opportunity.

Out and about in lovely hi rez BDRIPS and normal rez DVDRIPS at all the usual places....as is the original Arnie version which is still the shinng beacon of swords and sorcery epics. While you are there you could look out for other great 80s S&S flicks like THE SWORD AND THE SORCEROR, CONAN THE DESTROYER, RED SONJIA and THE BEASTMASTER....all top watching.

This is an old one but after having watched it again last night and remembering just how damn, frickin' fantastic this movie is I had to give it a mention.

Cinderella Man - The true story of boxer James Braddock around the time of the Great Depression.

The Best Movie Ever in my book.

If you haven't seen this... just watch it - you won't be dissapointed.
