Troyron wrote:Hi guys,
anyone have any experience with the tax rules when it comes to working from Thailand for a company in another country? I will be paying tax in my home country and working over the internet. Do I need to pay tax in Thailand (surely not) and most importantly, do I need to obtain a working visa?
thanks for any help.
You should check whether your home country has a double taxation agreement with Thailand. If it does, then you will not have to pay tax on that work in Thailand if you are being taxed at source.
If you are to be employed as a consultant and you work via the Internet, there are probably a couple of options. Just keep quiet about it or possibly set up a limited company in somewhere like the Isle of Man or similar place where extensive tax exemption is granted.

Just answered you. But maybe we should move to Monaco, then I'll will send you our yacht...To me it sounds like you will be like a fish out of water in Hua Hin.
Many of the Farang that live in Hua Hin are either married to prostitutes, going out wih a prostitute or are more than happy to embrace the whole bar girl scene, where as you seem to revel in the fact that your wife and her wonderful middle class family are better than that.
And the other angle that you will struggle with is the fact that this middle class thai family have a son in law that is poncing off their daughter whilst messing about with a part time freelance job.
Give Hua Hin a miss you will be dissapointed, what about monaco

Seriously, please keep the answers to a decent level. Im no different to many other guys who have been to Thailand. However meet a girl that makes feel like settling down and get married. She is just a normal girl, were hard work have given her 15 minutes of fame. Moving to Thailand so she can try to push it further. If it does not work, she will be back working in an office. : )
But back to the topic, it seems like you should only pay tax in one country. However you still need to file a tax form. According to some sites, the company you work for should withhold tax automatically.
Withholding rates are figured on the following scale:
5% on earnings of 100,000B or less
10% on earnings between 100,000B and 500,000B
20% on earnings between 500,000B and 1,000,000B
30% on earnings between 1,000,000B and 4,000,000B
37% on earnings over 4,000,000B
Also said this:
An individual who lives in Thailand for more than the period or periods totaling at least 180 days in any tax (calendar) year is deemed to be a resident of Thailand. He is subject to tax on all assessable income derived from sources within the country, whether paid within or outside Thailand.
Then again Thailand has concluded tax treaty agreements with 49 countries.

So it seems like I will pay tax to Norway, and need to file a tax form.

I think these comments are abusive. I'd like to know what experience you base these views on.BingoBango wrote: To me it sounds like you will be like a fish out of water in Hua Hin.

Are you sure you're not confusing Hua Hin with Pattaya or somewhere else.
I see no reason to doubt the OP's motives or question his ability to deal with his personal situation.
Why can't people just give some constructive answers and suggestions to his original inquiry.

Oh dear - don't you just hate it ladies when a guy says 'mine'? Or things like 'the wife'?
But that aside, from your response BingoBango are we to assume that you are happily married to your very own prostitute? Because thats how it reads.

If that's margaret you're talking to, you should be aware that she's pretty much the forum's mother figure (sorry mags, big sister).BingoBango wrote:Hey men, dont you just hate it when a woman is about to burn the bra, chill out love and change the batteries
Best to have a look around a generally friendly forum like this and get to know people before you start throwing your weight around.

This is the way

Don't be so insulting to the OP, and the decent people of Hua Hin, on this forum who are genuine and just trying to be helpful. Oh and of course the many women who both read the forum & also contribute.
Your comments are just pathetic..... so just do one!
