Attempting to be sarcastic.........

Gentile derives from Latin gens (from which, together with forms of the cognate Greek word genos, also derive gene, general, genus and genesis). The original meaning of "clan" or "family" was extended in post-Augustan Latin to acquire the wider meaning of belonging to a distinct nation or ethnicity. Later still the word came to refer to other nations, 'not a Roman citizen'.

Season 2 starts in the Uk tonight.
The last series attracted 11 million viewers on each Sunday night it was shown.
worth a download IMO.
BBC are transmitting the new series of Spooks in direct competition - I'll be interested to see if DA gets the lions share when there's a decent alternative to watch.

Another question for the downloadmeister:

I'm downloading 2 episodes of whatever from VeeHD, one at 150 Kb/sec, the other at 15 -why? The fast one finishes, the slow one stays slow - why? I start another 2nd download, and it resumes the same fast(ish) speed as before - why?

EDIT: As a follow-up to the above, episodes 3 and 4 (of Downton Abbey) were downloaded while episode 2 was sauntering along at 15-17 kb/sec, so after 4 was finished I started downloading episode 2 again (simultaneously) and it was downloading at the same slow speed. So how is the download speed determined? I stopped the second slow episode 2 download and moved on to no. 5, which is going at 90 kb/sec.

Just a reminder for those of us who watch TV rather than download.

Pillars of the Earth starts at 8 p.m. tonight on StarMovies. The second installment is tomorrow night at that same time, followed by new ones each Wednesday and Thursday night until finished.

Edit: I just did a search on the TrueVisions schedule and it looks like it's only 4 parts so I guess it will finish next week on Thursday night.

From what I understand of how VeeHD works the speed is relative to the number of users downloading the particular file at the same time....so popular downloads can run slower. Once the download starts the speed is set. Its a pain sometimes but I usually just stop the down and repeat it at after 9pm GMT when the whole system seems to speed up. VeeHD use ther own server system dont forget, so heavy user traffic does slow things down. If you get up early here or stay up till the wee small hours drop files then...by about 3 or 4pm in the afternoon here things start slowing down.

VeeHD have also had some recent issues with their system thanks to idiots flooding the system with film trailers and other YouTube junk.

Bear with it mate...well worth it, especially given the serious issues torrent users are having with "bad copy" files.

Thanks SM - it's not a major problem, just a quirk I was curious about. VeeHD is my main source, closely followed by One Click Moviez with OneDDL a distant third.

Does anyone have a link for the first few series of a British (BBC?) crime drama called New Tricks? Can only find series 8 on UK Nova.

Am thoroughly enjoying Downton Abbey. Very "Upstairs, Downstairs".

Thanks poosmate, downloading series 1 now. Looks like a very useful site for UK stuff. :thumb:
For anyone interested, you have to register, but they don't want much info and it only takes a sec.
