I don't seem to be having a pissing contest with anyone here but Admin may have a go for self promotion of my Central Department Stores if I'm not careful.

Don't know the answer and I'm personally not interested in large shopping complexes.I usually come out pissed off cos the staff have no idea of what they are doing, bought things I don't really need and sore feet from walking bloody miles

I do know however, Khon Kaen City has a place that knocks the spots off Market Village and all the other so called supermarket/mall shops in HH

Kosa hotel used to be Sofitel right?

I prefer to call it tosser hotel as KKC is full of farang tossers IMO

They all seem to know everything about all of Thailand but IMO know FA. Half of them have never even lived in a real Isaan village yet they are experts in Isaan village life and customs, experts in BK life, experts in HH life, et al

Sad sods :( :( :(

Anywho just looking at some of the Central Malls that I haven't seen before today justifies, to myself, that they really are in a world of there own in regards to malls in Thailand. Yes, we didn't come here to walk around shopping malls but in regards to the 5 Central malls that I have been to.... to have something similiar to those in Hua Hin would be great. It is actually.... believe it or not, a great day out for the family as there's normally loads of cool stuff for the kids to do also.

Don't want to be picky but the Kosa is still the Kosa and what used to be the Sofitel is now the Pullman Khon Kaen Raja Orchid - and a fine hotel it is, stayed there a few times.

The shopping mall concerned is directly opposite the Kosa Hotel and owned by it as far as I'm aware.

I find your comments a wee bit harsh here Richard.
I lived in an Isaan rice-farming village for over 4 years, combined with commuting to work at Khon Kaen University 3 days a week.
I met quite a few farang while I lived there and found most of them to be very pleasant - even after living here for 7 years, I still visit some good friends there quite regularly and vice versa.
I would doubt that you've met anywhere near half of them as there are a large number spread over a quite a big province.

I don't think it's fair to castigate a group of people you've never met because of some petty puerile banter on a thread.

Sounds a bit like pots and kettles to me ........ but sure, what would I know compared with the wealth of wisdom that appears on threads like this .....

Yes Barry

You are right. I was a bit harsh but I did meet during my living there a good few farangs and maybe 60% were in the category I described in my last post on this thread

I know people (farangs) who have lived here in Thailand and other parts of SE Asia for 25 years or more who will freely admit they are still learning so it galls me when you get a smart KIA talking sh1t on the forum

Thanks for the correction re the hotels Barry. Not been up there for a while as wife here as village under water but will be going back soon I'm sure. Miss REAL Thailand

I think I managed an oxymoron - or am I wrong? :)

Truly surprised to learn how many of you are pining for a bigger mall! But there you go, you live and learn. As for the p*ssing contest, Korats got a huge mall as well, but its part of the Siam Paragon Group (or whatever their proper job title is).

As you'd expect from the gulf in shop products, restaurants etc, these retail bods make a clear distinction made between a Market Village type mall, and an 'upmarket' (and rather expensive) Central type mall...
Q. Throughout Bangkok and the major cities (Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Hua Hin) there has been an expansion of neighbourhood malls by groups such as Siam Future. Does this pose a threat to CPN's expansion? Does CPN view lifestyle centres as a possible segment of the industry to expand into?
A. Neighbourhood malls or so-called community malls may be a threat but there are only a few successful cases and we currently do not plan on expanding into this segment because the projects are too small in size for us to consider.
...snobs

Can only be a matter of time I'd have thought there building one in Pissintheroad now which has no bigger population than Hua Hin but without all these wealthy Thai weekend visitors, foreign tourists only represent 17% of visitors to Hua Hin/Cha Am. There was 1.7 million Thai visitors that checked in accomodation in 2010, so that doesn't include those who have property here, and Thais seem be shopping mall mad.

I like shopping malls a couple of times a week, my son loves it at MV, I can understand people not liking shopping all that much, but if that's the case why on earth would you want them scattered for miles down the roads rather than taking up as least space as possible stacked on top of each other like in a mall  Without these places women would be spread out all over town instead of neatly herded (appropriate) into a small, accessible space... what exactly is there not to like about this!? the usual complaints are that malls are too air-conditioned and clean...WTF :? :D

Went to Pattaya a few weeks back and their new 'Central Festival' one was absolutely mobbed, and it's a pretty awesome architectural design inside (as shopping malls go  ) when you look down the central atriums. The restaurants/food courts in these places wipe the floor with MV's offerings. There's all manner of shops selling stuff we can't get here, without which I wouldn't be able to... errr... erm... look at my son glowing at night inside a block of plastic :run:

I like shopping malls a couple of times a week,...
I went to MV once in June to buy a door handle but since I've been back in Europe I've managed to avoid shopping malls completely as I'm here working by myself. I seem to be able to do all the shopping I need in the 24 hour service station down the road where you can buy a range of alcoholic beverages and disposable razors.
