Ok...ribbing aside, I do like Russians. I dated one for a long long time in the UK, I spent a long time drinking in some Russian clubs roudn Old Street in London (including a very dodgy one run by an ex Spesnas guy who was a total diamond once he got to know you and you were "in") and have also spent a fair bit of time working over there. Your normal run of the mill Russian is a reasonable salt of the earth type who like everyone else just wants their afternoon in the sunny patch of the patio. They work hard, party hard, and have a great outlook on life. I like em.

However:
I've got a lot of friends in the Russian travel business (Both here and in Moscow) and they all say that the "Quality" Russians are getting sick of the trash Russians in Pattaya and are looking at Hua Hin as a viable alternative.
One of the things I learned in Russia working there is there is NO real middle class. There are teh relatively poorly paid workers living in the grey orrible Stalinist housing blocks, and the upper class who live in Trumpesque mansions. Moneyed types from Russia unfortnuately are the last people you want moving in....and the reason is pretty obvious. Your average Ivan in a nice Merc with extra chrome and black windows is not a honest businessman....hes a fecking crim. When they move in they bring with them their heavily tattooed gofers and they are a real issue...trigger happy goons with viper tempers and a serious "respect/image" issue. The "trash" is how THEY view the normal Russian joe shmo, how they treat them, and how they will treat everyone else.

Your working man from Russia is a nice bloke, just like Edig who ran Little Moscau off Old Street. Your HiSo Ivans are like some of his clientele...not blokes who you even say hello to unless you like visits to the A&E care of the two illustrated man Boris types who hover just behind him.

HH is a nice quiet place because there are no Russian HiSos about....the ones that have turned Patayya into Kaliningrad v2.

There is no way you can stop them coming, but bear in mind when you make mates with the devil, youd better expect a red hot poker up the jacksie if you turn your back on him. Russian package tourists are no different to any other type...Russian HiSos are a feckin nightmare on wheels.

You'll be able to tell though that the Ruskies are really around when they start selling decent vodka in bars, supermarkets start stocking a wide variety of Addidas sports tracksuits with hoods and the food section has fresh beetroot all the time.
Other things to watch for are black Hummer H2s and Mercs with blacked out windows and extra chrome, sudden increases in the number of gold finish dolphin taps and sink accessories sold at HomePro, bars suddenly swapping annoying euro hi beat music and rap for even more annoying balalaika spliced Russian hi beat and rap or endless loops of TaTu, and a sudden drastic increase in the number of heavily tatooed young males "falling off" balconies.

Dead young Ukranian girls in deckchairs on the beach discovered at sunup are an optional extra with your Patayya Hell regional development deal.

:P SM is right :? They were in the hotel, Jomtiem beach last year, very loud, tall thin women white hair, white faces, no smile. Anyway, they are everywhere at the moment, they have the cash :alien:

My wife works for one of the Thai property companies that have two offices in Hua-Hin, and she has sold several condos to Russian famillies over the past two years. When I asked her what she thought about the Russians she's sold to, she says they have been some of her very best customers......always very decent, pleasant, and polite. When I asked if she'd encountered and shady ones, she said no, not yet. Maybe the shady ones prefer houses rather than condos

To set the record straight the term is "trailer trash", not trail trash. It refers to people who live in poorly maintained mobile homes/and "trailer parks".....I believe that would be "caravans" to you Brits.

BTW This is perhaps the most racist and demeaning thread I've ever read on HHAD.

Have those of you who wrote the nastier stuff looked at it in the daylight??

The term "racist" can hardly be applied. The ruskies are caucasians just like the writers. Do be careful with the racist tag. :tsk:

O.K. Lung Per, then what tag would you apply to these posts? Whatever you call it I'm quite surprised no-one else has noticed or cares about how these posts reflect on HHAD, and each of us by association.

Personally I am quite surprised the Mods haven't intervened or even commented on this thread.

If we had have people will be crying "censorship" if we let things take their own course we get blamed for not taking action, as the boss man said in another thread "we can't win".

Personally I'd agree that stereotyping and labelling any group of people by nationality is ridiculous, apart from the Brits and Aussies who are generally a bunch of #@#$%%$

Light moderation is a good thing imo, last thing we need is the 'nanny squad' on here like on some other silly forums. Letting people talk and conversations flow is good, no laws have been broken.

Yanks/Brits and Arabs etc all come in for a bashing at times, just the Ruskies turn on this thread.

Perhaps Xenophobic is a better term than racist.
I know a few Russians who are working here in Europe but I've never found them to be in any way inferior. They can sometimes drink too much but so can I!

The simple answer is: Don't apply tags. That's a very bad habit and does not contribute positively to any discussion of any subject.
