Could you name a few bars that have free Wifi
Terrace90 (one of the advertisers on this forum) does, I believe, though it's more of a restaurant with a bar (actually 2 bars one upstairs and one downstairs) than a "bar".

internet problem . Help !

Post by seamus72 »

I'm the first to admit, my knowledge of this subject is basic at best. So apologies for any mistakes...

I live in a housing estate of 50+ properties, and have had the standard 600 baht or so package from TOT. For the last 2-3 weeks, my download speed has ranged between an incredibly slow 10 to 15 KBPS. Just to download 4 basic photos sent from family recently took 25 minutes! The upload speed is even worse. I recently uploaded a short 2 minute video, and to attach this to an e-mail, to send back to the UK, took more than 3hrs !

I have visited the TOT office, and engineers came, saying the line needed to be changed,( main line into project I believe , but maybe my house too ) but this would have to be done by the project managers/owners. A Thai member of my project staff then contacted me to say that the line was checked by him and was fine, and doesn't need to be changed ! I'm sure at some point in the next decade, I'd be able to get these two geniuses together.

Ive previously tried to change my subscription to a different company, but they wont install where I am. The project owners say that I am only able to use TOT !

Sending back videos of my family here to family and friends in the UK is becoming a pain in the @rse. My computer was recently serviced and cleaned up, and when using the connection in this guys house, on my laptop, the download speed was 600 KBPS.

Any advice welcome please.
Thanks.

Have you asked your neighbours what their connection speeds are like? Tried connecting with a different machine? It sounds like a cable problem which is very common with TOT (though they'll never admit it).

Also, at least with 3BB, they only are responsible to the cable at the end of your property as it enters from the pole to a junction box. If they check there and the signal is ok then they have always told me it's my problem across my property or inside my house... which it has been twice, once from corrosion at the connection in the box and once from a cable eaten by vermin.

It's about 3 or 4 shops down on the right - they close at 6 p.m.

There's a printing/copying place at on Phetkasem Road just south of Soi 88 in the building with the coffee shop. They've done good work for me before including oversize items.

Has anyone seen this before:
Error.jpg

I've been getting that at random times for the last few days (maybe ever since I went to FireFox 4).

I never let anything update my computer automatically, I always set everything to ask first and get permission from me. I run ZoneAlarm firewall, Avast antivirus, and regularly do antivirus scans with Avast and Malwarebytes as well as regularly run Advanced System Care 4 to clean up the registry, junk files, and ad cookies and files... yet I keep getting this message (XP Pro on an older desktop machine).

:? :? :?

And no, I don't think contacting my network provider (3BB) as the message instructs would be of any help at all! ... so I'm coming to the real experts.

Only suggestion I have is uninstall FF, reboot, then download and install the new version.

Yes, I think that would be best......uninstall and then install again. I myself have had no problems at all with FF's latest edition. In fact, I have IE disabled completely because certain family members insist on using it.

Between Google and FF, I find there's very little chance of your PC picking up a virus, or at least, that's been my experience.

I've just downloaded a dictionary program and have ended up with a .bin file.

Can anyone please tell me how I can now use that file to install the program.

Thanks a lot.

Barry, usually downloads like that are packaged with a built in installer and all you have to do is double click on the downloaded file and the installation will start.
