I tried to sort my favourites by genre and special reference to ones earlier in life which 'disturbed' me.

Genre Recent Much Earlier
Romance: Ghost Breakfast at Tiffanys
War: Blackhawk down Da Boot
mystery: Sixth Sense Pyscho
Sci fi: Clockwork orange This Island Earth
Thriller: The Bourne Identity
Crime: Infernal affairs (HK)
Biography: Patton
Comedy: Dr. Stangelove
Fantasy: Lord of the Rings
Adventure The hunt for Red October Deliverance[/quote

Yes it is difficult, I like a lot of the ones you have listed. I forgot to put "In the heat of the night" which starred Sidney Poitier, Rod Steiger...but that is unfair of me as now I have chosed 11  I suppose it is films that made an impact on you that matter.

It's important to remember and to remind kids that it's all just story telling by paid performers. Even films that are meant to be biographies usually fall far short of what was reality during the person's life. They glorify the good parts and gloss over the bad parts.

I've known some impressionable people who start to mold their lives based upon what impressed them in a movie. Living kind of in a fantasy world I guess. It's great if a movie makes you feel happy and good. It's not great if you actually begin to believe what you saw. Especially dangerous with kids as we've seen when they take their lead from gangster movies and crazy video games. Pete

Good point. I always censored the films my son watched when he was young. Some parents allow their children to watch disturbing films, big mistake, for young minds. I remember my son wanted to borrow a video (it was then video) Nightmare on Elm Street as all his friends had watched it...I simply stood my ground and refused point bank! :guns: http://www.bbfc.co.uk/

Back in the UK most of my collection was on DVD. I brought most over in dribs and drabs....

A few nights a week my film fan mate Russ would come over and have dinner at my place, then we would settle in for a nights film and smoke :rasta:

Inevitably this would turn into a long session of standing in front of the shelves staring at the box spines in brainlock.

so many films, so little time.

Probably not many in HH Richard, most will be in Korat/Udon/Ubon/Isaan in general/U Tapao etc as those were where the main US/Thai Air Force bases were in the mid 60s to mid 70s.

R&R locations were different but, from what I heard from the older boys where I am, Isaan was quite wild and crazy in those days until it got all shut down in the mid to late 90s, now conservative central compared to other places really.

Edit -I'm, however, way off topic here with this post.... :run:

I missed Nam because of my age, now if you'd like to hear about my days in the SAS it's a different story.

BB :lach: your a card

Spitfire true met a few missing in action boys (old men) in KK. No passport, no visa and some tales to tell. Well you have, as BB is implying, sort out the wheat from the chaff but I can confirm there are war vets up in Isaan who are protected by the US special Thai services based in BK. I've seen it and witnessed their rescue operations, so it's not hearsay. No doubt condoned by the Thai authorities

Thelma & Louise
Is that a typo Terry?

If not, you're in danger of losing your 'ruff&tough' 'blood&bullets' fisherman image that eats beans and early mornings for breakfast in pursuit of 'The catch' when he's not in India. Image

Says Mr Lost In Translation.

Although I loved it and I don't know why, an odd film.

Arrgh! Only ten? Narrowed it down to ten by listing the ones I've recommended most often. In no particular order:

The Triplettes of Belleville
Days of Heaven
The Right Stuff
There's Something About Mary
Strictly Ballroom
Reservoir Dogs
Old Boy

- Never recommended these three because everybody knew about them.
Unforgiven
Toy Story 2
The Godfather

- The next one isn't the 11th on the list because it's a short, not a movie.
The Music Box (Laurel and Hardy move a piano up a set of stairs between two roads on a hillside. They were not efficient.)
