An era of decent affordable bikes for LOS

Sorry, forgot to mention that the dealership in HH charges 75,000 for the CBR150. While it is also a nice looking little bike, it just doesn't have as much sex appeal as the 250 though, so for an extra 35,000, it's the 250 for me.

I would definitely get the one that is coming in today, as I am sure demand here is going to out strip supply very soon.
As for the engine sound it is definitely not like a “chicken with a wasp up its arse”.
I was out on mine yesterday, down to Pak Nam Pran, then Kuri Buri and back up to HH via Cha Am, great fun.

To compare, think the 250 Kawasaki Ninja comes in at 150,000 baht new, a little more cash but has had some good reviews all round, does look sexy though......

You must be one of the few people in HH with a 250 CBR then Dozer? Well, at least for a month or two as don't reckon there's too many of them around yet.

Yes the CBR 250 certainly is money exchange worthy. Can't say the single cylinder is my thing, nor is the lack of pannier slots. But I've yet to take a close look at one to get a feel for it.

Always have felt safer on four so I'll stick to that I think. Bicycle still get's a good run around at the moment but age will soon wipe that little treat off my hands. Some good walking sticks been catching my eye recently at affordable prices. Mulling over the material of which to put on the end. Rubber just don't stick on wet tiles.

So all, enjoy your little engine upgrade and you may very well be looking for a wheelchair in the same shop as I - only it won't be 'cause of old age!

Agree Four wheels is safer than Two

But once you have the bike bug its in your blood and hard to give up no matter your age. Seem to be alot of middle age men going back to bikes myself included.

Respect to those who just carried on riding bikes. Life is short so why not enjoy!

As a biker/rocker/greaser of old I would love to try again but old age, gammy leg and shit scaredness has me thinking of a trike. Wheelchair may be more appropriate but still a biker at heart so has to be a trike and one with style OR a Harley with sidecar like my friend who cruises HH

When one is as old as I you try to make light of the things which will soon be entering your life. As for the comments about motorbikes - I had no problems with the big bikes ridden by long timers back home but here there is absolutely no point of having a huge engine with the disasters of the roads AND so many inexperienced riders just jump on one because they think it's cool.

Unless you are planning on travelling around Thailand (which a sports bike isn't the best option for anyway!) there is no need to have a powerful bike.

I'd hardly call a 250cc a "big bike", just as I'd hardly call myself "middle aged" (though sometimes it does feel like it). Someone likes their sweeping generalisations

Back to bikes for those that love em, does Yamaha have anything in the 250 bracket? They seem to jump from 125 twist-and-go shopping bikes straight to fully fledged racing machines with nothing in between.

Yamaha have this to answer the Ninja and CBR, their 250cc bike is the YZF R4. Probably won't challenge the CBR on price but couldn't nail a price for it here, or whether they plan to sell it here, or are selling it here in LOS already, certainly haven't seen one yet.

Edit - I guessing it's going to be a fair whack more expensive as has duel disc brakes, twin cylinder fuel injection etc. Price could be more like the 200,000+ baht area by the look of it as some sites say it's about US $2000 more than the Ninja. Certainly not the price bargin that the other two represent, but I guess it's 'horses for courses' etc and you pay for what you get, but still think the Honda CBR 250 is a great bargin.

Yamaha don’t seem to be interested in the 150/250cc range, so the local alternatives to the Honda would be the Ninja or the Boxer.
There is the 400cc locally made Lifan LF 400 which comes in at around 150,000Baht
