the sofitel hotel
Re: the sofitel hotel
I have stayed in the Sofitel in Heathrow, it was good value, but sometimes the menus can be ordinary. I quite like a little luxury when I am in a hotel. The good thing is that with online offers which are around these days, you can really get a good deal, a bargain. The Sofitel in HH looks really nice from the website pictures. I mapjacked it and it does appear to be central. I do not want to go too up market as they can be OTT! Just a good 4/5 star hotel, don't mind out of town if the facilities are good.
Re: the sofitel hotel
Its very central. Lovely gardens and old-time elegance, not generic "luxe".

If you want a bit of luxury Siani - and can get a good deal - Sofitel is about as central as you will get in HH. I've had friends stay there with no complaints. Can't remember what they thought of the food, but as traditional Brit fish and chip folks it was irrelevant! Personally I wouldn't stay anywhere full board in Thailand as there is so much choice of good food everywhere - I wouldn't want to be tied to the hotel dining room all the time.
Sofitel HH has the added bonus of a history, and really beautiful gardens.

Re: the sofitel hotel
I have on several occasions stayed at the Sofitel her in Hua Hin and I think it is a superb hotel.
Re: the sofitel hotel
Thanks for the info. I would not want to book full board, just breakfast. I like going to different places and to try all sorts. I am not the typical "Brit abroad" and steer clear of fish & chips etc. I really like Thai food anyway. Travelbag Asia has an offer, the Sofitel 14 nights £819 including breakfast and also the flight. I thought this to be quite good. I really love nice hotel rooms! It does look lovely.
I should be ready to book very soon, just waiting for the completion details on the sale of my property. I also hope the "Ash cloud" will be gone soon, that is a worry. Anyway, many thanks. Siani

That's a really good deal Siani. It would also give you the chance to have a good look around HH.

Re: the sofitel hotel
Yes, it is pretty good by the looks of it. They start from £589 for a 5 star hotel including flight and breakfast, think that is one week. Also 3 and 4 star hotels are cheaper. When I went through on a "test run" for June it came out at £819 for 2 weeks. That was a few days ago. Hope it is still the same when I am ready to book. It does seem to go up in July, August etc...but I think it is a good firm. I went to Australia with them some years ago. Here is the link:

A friend and I, did a review of the Sofitel restaurants a few years ago for The Tattler.Siani wrote:I have stayed in the Sofitel in Heathrow, it was good value, but sometimes the menus can be ordinary. I could not fault the food or wine. Hic, burp.

£819inc airfare, for two weeks B&B in a top hotel is good value, but if you have all meals there, it will bump up the price.
Good luck.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
Re: the sofitel hotel
Yes it is a good price. I went on the Accor site which covers the Sofitel and if you book just the room as a hot deal, no cancelation it comes out at about £800 for 2 weeks. The Travelbag/asia say that for another £19 they will fly you there and give you breakfast. Sounds really good.
What a lovely job doing reviews for Tattler! My dream job!
I would not want to eat there every night, I really like going to different places, explore a little!

Re: the sofitel hotel
I did not do the reviews (we did 12 hotels and restaurants in Hua Hin) for money. I was just helping a friend, who was doing the reviews for the Tattler.
As I said before, the food and wines were excellent.

Re: the sofitel hotel report
I stayed for a week at the Sofitel HH last year in low season just before high season when prices are rediculously high. My wife insisted on a garden suite room with its private garden area, very nice. I would not go upstairs.
Staff were great, breakfast great, didn't eat or drink there becuase it is so close to town for variety and value.
Lots of Germans staying so I didn't mention the...
Room comfortable, Strange outdoor reception area, pain to wait a long time in on a hot day.
Sofitel works hard to push away the locals, makes a detached feeling. At Twilght a clarinet player performed on the lawn in front of the main block.

Re: the sofitel hotel
The Sofitel in HH has to be one of the best chain hotels in Thailand. The facilities, location, staff quality, gardens etc are hard to better anywhere.
Used to stay there a lot before moving to HH and it's hard to believe that the hotel has been extended at least twice since my first visit in '92 - such is the attention to detail.
Old colonial style rooms with polished wooden floors and big chunky brass taps - but all working to modern standards.
The breakfast is usual 5 star buffet stuff, the restaurants are good, but with such a huge choice of eateries just outside the front door who needs to stay in the hotel to eat?
Not sure if they still do it but there often was an ice carving session held most evenings on the rear steps of reception area, overlooking the main lawn. Incredible sculptures of birds, fish, elephants from a block of ice. This would then be carried to the evening buffet as the central decoration.
One of the most amazing things are the 'deals' including flights etc from UK that some agents have.
Back in '92 I recall seeing a 'deal' which included flights from/to London, 2 nights BKK all transfers to/from HH, 5 nights in the Sofitel priced at the same amount for 5 nights rack rate at Sofitel. A fantastic bargain.
I believe these deals or similar still exist - so grab one - you wont be disappointed.
