Brown is in complete denial regarding U.K debt. if he retains power he will print even more money and cause the pound to fall even further, or collapse altogether.

do you have any idea what cam & oz are gonna do if they get the chance to govern?

I don't think the public have got much faith in anyone at the moment, with some justification.
The only problem is that if you don't give the Tories a go, you're left with either Gordon bancrupting the country or a load of frothing mad extremists who know nothing of economics.
I'll admit I'm ignoring the Liberals by saying that, but I've not heard much about them for a while. I suppose they'll show up at the first sign of a coalition.

No, he's lying, plain and simple. Every day in the UK we hear of more cuts, the latest being in higher education, which means all those kids staying off the dole by enrolling at college and helping to keep the figures down will be back on the streets come September, as there is no money left to pay for their education. The local Uni here is closing its physics dept. lock, stock and barrel. End of. The cuts aren't even being put back until after the election, such is the PM's weakended position within his own party.

Yes, all the unemployed single mothers and large families who get more in social and housing benefits than they ever would by working.
What other government faced with such large debts would dream up schemes that waste millions / billions on giving out free laptops and internet subscriptions to some claimants.
It's reported that these are then cashed in by reselling on eBay !!
Latest bright idea is to lower voting age to 16 - no doubt in the hope of catching them young with more freebies ?

Exactly the same is happening in the U.S. now. People have given in to the nanny state where you vote for the party who will give you the most free stuff. What many don't realize is the the government(s) don't produce anything that earns money. They can only pay for these social programs through taxing the citizens.

What happened to personal responsibility?

well judging by the polls it seems so & considering they have been regarded as the worst government ever, blah blah, people can't really have much faith in the tories or the other alternatives can they? :|

perhaps people have taken 'the better the devil you know' attitude or more likely they remember or are reminded of, the dark old days of tory rule  :|
ie unemployment over 3 million for years on end, sky high interest rates, the poll tax etc etc etc
or maybe it's because people feel they are being held to ransom by all the companies sold off by the tories, who put profit before services.

unfortunately, that was the monstrous smash & grab capitalism the tories created :( :|

I quite liked the poll tax, but then, at the time, I lived in Wandworth, so I paid zero. I think it eventually went up to 48 pounds? They still provide great value on Council Tax all these years on. Maybe others should go and see what they do?

RZR, I think you have to go beyond the last Tory Govt. to see why what what happened did. I don't believe its actually disputed anymore, is it? Labour left a hell of a mess which is why working class kids like myself, that grew up on Council estates and witnessed all the crap going on, voted them out, much to the chagrin of our parents. It was my first vote in an election and I wanted a future.

Haven't voted for them much since and voted Labour in 97. Where I now live I have a straight choice between Lid-Dem and Tory, Labour don't even figure.

These polls confuse me, I've never been asked my opinion and everyone I know is completely hacked off with Labour.

I'm left wondering how much support the Labour party gets due to the fact that the public sector is the only one that has expanding employment. They seem to employ huge numbers of people now and even sometimes have pay rises, an experience the rest of us have virtually forgotten about.

excellent point from Steve G. 6,000,000, yes that’s six million public sector workers who probably will vote Labour. would you bite the hand that feeds you. ??? what do these people do all day? they don't contribute anything to the economy other than tax that they pay. while i fully understand that we have to have some public sector workers we certainly do not need anything like this amount.

what utter rubbish. Conservative policy has always been to reduce tax to encourage growth. this has the effect of increasing the tax take. Conservatives following on from a Labour administration always have to reduce borrowing. please can you tell me when a Conservative government got involved in printing money to support the economy.??
if any nationalised industry remain i hope that they are sold off. in the private sector they will be forced to become profitable and not drain the economy.
please before anyone asks me to get back on topic, i have never left it.

with respect i think we are on topic. the coming election and the difference between the parties may well have a dramatic effect on GBP vs THB. are we not allowed to discuss why the pound is so low or do we just report the day to day Baht rate.
