Try taking an overdose of a natural herb such as digitalis (Foxglove) or Atropine (Belladonna). You would probably be dead before you vomited.

I wouldn't try and don't know anyone who would.

If nothing was happening, could be that it is not the correct medicine and by increasing the dose you may be making yourself worse.

Nature has a remedy for overdose. It makes you vomit.

Very silly statement it does not, take an overdose of a lot of drugs and they will kill you.

You also failed to answer my question what qualifications and training have you had.
See my disclaimer or read my previous posts.

I'm glad you concur that taking an overdose of a lot of drugs will kill you. Most natural herbs are NOT drugs and not dangerous when you mix them together. It is when you mix herbs WITH synthetic medications there is a risk.

If something isn't working obviously it may not be the right herb. You are being unreasonable.

We are not all the same. A 300lb man will not be on the same dose as a 10 year old waif. The idea behind increasing the frequency or dose of an herbal remedy is to ensure that the therapeutic chemicals are circulating in the system continuously, sufficient to do the job, and not just, say, spiking in the morning or at night. The beauty of herbal combinations is the body takes exactly what it needs and excretes the rest. How it can be said that a synthetic chemical with just one 'active ingredient' is better than the thousands of phytochemicals from a herbal combination in its natural form is beyond me.

Supplier recommendations for dose tend to be cautious due to the risk of a 'healing crisis'. I've never seen an herbal remedy where a dose has NOT been suggested but real world application tends to require adjustments. Some herbs are potent and caution obviously applies. Start low and build up. If there is an adverse reaction, then back off.

There is no professional medical herbalist on these boards. Just as there are no professional medical doctors that I'm aware of. Any information I present on this forum has been provided by Allopathic doctors, practicing herbalists, Ayurvedic practitioners, lay people who have tried it and claimed success and my own observations. I am more than willing to provide references and invariably do but it takes a lot of time and is pointless for certain people, who simply ignore it.

I'm always ready to alter my opinion in the light of new information. I remain ever hopeful you will provide some. :thumb:

There is no essential difference between drugs and herbal medicines.
They are all chemicals or mixtures of chemicals which have pharmacological properties.
Why do you say there are no qualified doctors on this board?

Had my yearly angiogram a couple of weeks ago, the surgeon went in through the right wrist (where your pulse is) and all went well.
No real change with the heart blood supply. :D

4 days later went to check my pulse and nothing, no pulse in wrist but one 6 inches up the arm.

Phoned the surgeon who asked me to come straight to the hospital for a check up.
Up shot is, my artery has collapsed at the wrist and it ain't coming back but apparently I can live without it.
It happens in 1in 1000 or so (just my luck) and it doesn't bother me.

Had my Doplar BP test 2 days ago, they compare BP in upper arms with BP in feet, using both sound monitoring and BP monitoring.
Average for me was 115 in arms and 110 in feet, so all ok.

Sargent :)

Try what I do, I now take only 20mg Atorvastatin (Lipitor) so I get 40mg and cut them in half, if you need 40mg then get the 80mg and do the same and take it at night. Usually the cost works out cheaper that way.

When I first started taking Plavix (Clopidogrel) for thinning the blood that was £280 for a box of 28 tablets.

Apologies for my late response. Missed your post.

Depends what you mean by 'essential'. Poor mum, who suffered badly from the side effects of drugs, will no doubt rest easy knowing there are no essential differences.

I believe I have stated several times that I will use whatever works. Either pharma drugs or herbal remedies. As long as they are safe, effective and affordable. Unfortunately within BOTH camps, it's a challenge for the layman to get beyond marketing driven 'science' and bogus claims. I do not trust 90% of the herbal remedies in the OTC (over the counter) field, for reasons which have been discussed in previous posts just as I do not trust 90% of pharma products which, IMO, produce far too many toxic and marginally effective (or ineffective) treatments.

There may not be 'essential' difference in terms of basic chemistry but there is a fundamental difference in application. Conventional medicine will suppress 'bothersome' symptoms, providing temporary relief, while herbalists and naturopaths will see those same symptoms as the body's natural and normal attempts to heal, which they then try and support.
Why do you say there are no qualified doctors on this board?
I said 'that I'm aware of'. If you are one, your professional input would be most welcome.

WL welcome to the growing older club.
HBP is not uncommon and indeed the reverse is true for those over 50 so I was told by a cardiologist. Diet, stress, genetic predisposition, fitness not withstanding. I was originally on Avapro - couldn't get here. Now taking "Thiamil" - all apparently diuretics which cause you to pee and in doing so reduce liquid and K from blood (simplistic answer). Can get Thiamil here quite cheaply with Dr consultation for reg check up eg. ~ 300 Bht/month.
No side effects for me and no nocturnal increase trips to loo even after a few beers. BP now around 135/85 before 160+ and yes BP does vary during the day.

Hello,

Blood Pressure problems can be treated alternatively. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can offer reasonably successful solutions to this common problem. Depending on the seriousness, it can be treated lightly with acupuncture alone, with Herbal Medicine in more severe cases or with a combination of both. TCM treatment can be taken in conjunction with Western Medical Drugs which can be gently phased out as the condition improves.

Most of the time, there is a need to review and alter the lifestyle as some aspects of it are often the cause and/or aggravate the problem.
In all cases, regular exercise is a must.

I am a U.K trained TCM practitioner with 20 years experience in the field. I trained at the London School of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (incorporated in Westminster University) for 5 years and attended subsequent clinical training in P.R China. I studied and practice Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. I worked both in the NHS and in
Private practice in the UK. I live in Hua hin and I am fluent in French, English ans Spanish.

I can be contacted [ contact details edited - no self business plugs please ] Do not hesitate to contact me for further info/questions.

With Kind Regards to all.
