Interesting

Post by Chas »

I came up with 42.

Some I "know well" and have either lived in for a time or visited often. . .others were the airport stopover type. Interesting!

You are right. Of the 50-ish countries I've ticked, Europe's rank highly. One trip I wrote about called 'Man in A Van' took me through 12 alone. Portugal to Moscow in 5 months.

15, but still have lots of time, Thailand is the base-of-operations/hub. Just that work gets in the way of the better things. :D

27 for me, but I don't think anybody can count airport stopovers as you are not physically entering the country - so a few of you will have to revise your totals I think! Also Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland should really be counted as separate countries shouldn't they (given that the Channel Islands are listed as separate countries (Jersey and Guernsey))? In which case I have been to 30 :D

20 here, which is well over half my age so I'm happy with that!

No, England, Wales, Scotland & Northern Ireland are the constituents of the country know as "The United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland". By no stretch of the rules could you call Wales or Scotland another country by international standards. Gibraltar, The Channel Islands, The Isle of Man, The Falkland Islands, Canary Islands, (not listed for some reason), The Marshall Islands, Macao, Hong Kong, etc. etc. are all semi autonomous protectorates or dependencies and are recognized internationally as different countries.

E.g. A US citizen could cross the border between England and Scotland without showing a passport but he could not travel from Heathrow to Jersey without one and immigration in Jersey would want to see it.

I had to read the list three times before coming up with any figure. I have 49 definites. I also have some in the Middle East that I visited before I was 5 years old so haven't got a clue what they were or what they are now. I have just counted Egypt and the countries I have been to more recently. Also I toured Slovenia and Yugoslavia in the seventies and I do not have a clue as to what those are now although I must have visited Slovenia itself, Croatia, Bosnia (Sarajevo) and maybe two others.

I have been to Czechoslovakia which is now two countries and the Canary Islands which would add another 2.

So I reckon it is between 52 & 58 and I have never ever crossed the equator. Quite a few would be one day only which I have counted and I have done airport transfers in Kuwait & Russia which I have not counted.

The other country missed off the list that I have been to is Yorkshire although I think that is a protectorate of Jersey.

It's and eye opener. Without the list I would have said 25 - 30.

OOps. I forgot White Hart Lane. I don't like to mention it as some of the middle eastern airlines will refuse to carry you.

Guess,
I was joking by the way! However I find it strange that the list has Guernsey and Jersey separately.
