Re: Earthquake Shakes Large Parts of Thailand

Now they've had a rare, but significant, earthquake... perhaps early-warning seismometers would be beneficial? Given the poor build infrastructure in most places, it could save lives? Early warning seismometers? What are those? Seismometers can only detect an earthquake when the shock waves from th...

Re: Earthquake Shakes Large Parts of Thailand

Just saw reports of rumours on Facebook (yes, I know) that various businesses and the two main malls in Hua Hin were closed today due to fears of aftershocks.

I'm pretty sure this is BS but I haven't been into town today. Can anyone who has, confirm that this is fake news?

Re: Earthquake Shakes Large Parts of Thailand

They’re reporting in excess of 1,000 dead in Myanmar and sadly that number is likely to increase substantially. Very sadly, yes. According to the article below, a "USGS analysis said there was a 35% chance that possible fatalities could be in the range of 10,000 to 100,000 people." https:...

Re: Seasonal influenza vaccination in Hua Hin?

Actually, according to a couple more articles I've found since, it appears the main strain causing the outbreak in Japan is Influenza A. It doesn't say which sub-strain but there are only two in circulation, H1N1 and H3N2 so the vaccine you've found would be a good choice. Influenza A accounted for ...

Re: Seasonal influenza vaccination in Hua Hin?

Don't get me started on the price of wine here, and comparing things to UK prices is futile. We just did a little research to try and get the same product for half the price (which it usually is) but as we've found ... "mai mee". Reading some reports on the situ where we're going is a bit...

Re: Seasonal influenza vaccination in Hua Hin?

Yes, but my point is, I thought flu jabs were made for the expected virus in the coming year in a particular area, so buying a jab here might be for the wrong strain of flu elsewhere. That's right - the flu vaccines are different for the Southern hemisphere and the Northern hemisphere. Although the...

Re: Hua Hin on Its Way to Becoming a “Special Tourist City”

Ahh, the British, gotta love 'em. Not the Russians then? I never meet any Russian tourists in Hua Hin, are there any, I doubt it. Phuket is littered with them I know. There are plenty of Russians in Hua Hin - I've come across them all over the place. At the hospital, in the markets (Hua N...

Re: 30฿ Healthcare - National Registration

Wonder why only 2 fixed dates for registration at Hua Hin, but any normal working day at Takiab. We had missed this announcement and so missed these two dates but the next time we went to HHH (at the beginning of June) they were making announcements about this over the PA system and my wife was abl...

Re: Hua Hin hospital special medical clinic

As for private facilities, my son was recently in the VIP Area following his leg operation. That accommodation and nursing care knocked spots off anything the likes of BH has to offer at a fraction of the cost. It was really special. Of course, it is a public hospital with massive turnover of patie...

LOL, it's where it's always been. Only difference is you can't use the comfy sofas any longer. BB, do your know what's the deal with the SMC these days? I've gone up to the 5th floor twice now in recent weeks and each time they're sent me straight down to the after hours clinic next to the emergenc...

Re: Climate change could force Thailand to move its capital

Thailand may have to consider relocating its capital Bangkok because of rising sea levels, a senior official in the country's climate change office said on Wednesday. Projections consistently show that low-lying Bangkok risks being inundated by the ocean before the end of the century. Much of the b...
