I was in Chiang Mai last month and found it quite handy flying AirAsia out of DMK. I took the overnight sleeper train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok, and it stops right at the airport.

I figure if she's meeting me, why not someone else? I've yet to meet a Thai girl who's interested in dating farangs and doesn't already have 4 or 5 of us on the go at one time.

Prices in Hanoi are very, very low, and can always be negotiated a bit lower. A nice room in the old quarter with a good breakfast should be around $25-$30/night. There are loads of well-reviewed places like this on booking dot com or whatever. Glad to hear you were happy with your Halong bay cruise...

Very quiet when I visited.

I was here the other night and I think it's now under new ownership - a different French guy seemed to be running the place. Still basically the same as before, though. I don't think he's changed anything.
